COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

750mL bottle. Bottled on: 02/13/07. Pours a clear amber with a thick quartz head. Some hints of raspberries and blueberries in the lightly grainy aroma. Solidly smooth-bodied with some crispness at the end. Malty sweetness and the tanginess of the yeast and berries start things off. Finishes a tad musty with just a little pepper and the slightest touch of warming alcohol. Just a little drying. Subtle all the way through. Tastes pretty much like I expected it to.

This is what these guys do best. They give you such subtle flavors that it makes the flavor even more pronounced. Nothing is ever topo sweet or shy. It is always right out there. This beer has the black and blueberries that show perfectly!

Bottle. Crimson pour with a bone white head. Aroma of pungent berries, some pale malt and some vinous notes as well. Flavors of malt, berries, a bit of booze and some tannins. Medium bodied with a light carbonation and a dry/syrupy sweet finish. Interesting brew.

I liked this even though I’m not a big fan of adjuncts. Heavy on flavor, not gimmick. I didn’t really taste the berries, they were very subtle. A well crafted brew.

750ml bottle. Aroma: Light bready malt, belgian yeast, peppery spiciness, and the expected berries. Berries are a mix of dried blueberries and slightly sour berry juice. Appearance: Medium amber in color with a slight purpleish cast. Off-white head was full and foamy with good retention and a slight pinkish cast. Good lacing. Flavor: Some light malt upfront with a bit of toast, peppery spice and belgian yeast. Berry flavors are really nice. Doesn’t overwhelm everything else, and isn’t sugary sweet. Some light earthy hop bitterness into the finish. Semi-dry finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: Not bad. Fruit flavor was pretty balanced throughout but still shone through.

Bottle... Clear copper ale with a mid-sized, creamy, pinkish head. Good retention. The aroma is of berries and leathery, earthy hops. Sweet, crystal and pale malt flavor with bunches of sweet berries and a sassy hop bitterness (the only thing keeping this brew from becoming totally cloying and annoying)... nice, necessary touch. Medium-bodied with a lightly abrasive mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Watery, then dry finish. 10% ABV?? Could’ve fooled this guy... bonus points!

Bottle shared by nolankowal: Pours a purple color with a kinda lilac colored head. Aroma, very fruity, with some sugary notes as well. Flavor, blueberries, some toasted qualities, on the sweet side. Weird but pretty good.

interesting but not what i expected at all. pours a reddish amber color with a small quickly diminishing head. nice sparkly mouthfeel and a sweet malty taste with maybe the slightest juiciness in the finish. not very fruity at all...couldnt pick out any particular fruit flavors at all. i probably wouldve enjoyed it more if i didnt know what it was...or what i thought it would be. that said, went down easy and didnt taste too bad.

not what I expected.nice amber color w/ a reddish hue.a bit of berries in the nose but for a fruit beer almost no berry taste at all.nice mouthfeel with a bit of a sparkle feel on the tongue. lots of malty flavor and some sourness.overall its ok not sure if I would get it again but worth trying.

Pretty interesting. Alot maltier than I expected from a fruit beer. Definently some berry taste going on in there. A little bit sweet and a little bit sour. A little bit of a flavor battle going on but none of it overpowers. You don’t taste the alcohol until the finish. Pretty good stuff and certainly pretty interesting.
