2.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
Probably one of the best aromas you will EVER find in a beer, but the taste is simply awkward.... The aftertaste is quite foul, almost sour.
The beer poured decently with a dark black color that passes no light through it, has a reddish brown head, and leaves some mild lacing on the glass. The beer smells decently with a solid sweet chocolate maltiness and a fruity finish. The beer tastes decently as you get the Red up fron (fruity and mild wine taste) and the WWS on the back end (boozy, chocolatey taste) with a mild boozy finish. The mouthfeel is average as the beer is decently carbonated, full bodied, and leaves you with an slightly overly sweet taste. Overall, I was glad to try this beer but would not come back to it. Draft. Initially had this on draft in early 2012 and, well, hated it. My least favorite DFH brew. Raspbery plus mint. (Billed as Red and Green at Monks at the time.) Mind you I love both of those flavors but in practice it proved disgusting. Now having an aged 2011 draft at Eulogy. Black pour, but shows ruby red under very bright light. Pleasant dark fruit aroma. Medium-thin dark fruit up top. Dried raspberries, blueberries, figs, and raisins towards the front. Mint slides in overtop and lingers with some new liquorice flavors after the finish. Much, much better than the "fresh" version - but still only something I would recommend as a passing novelty. Rating it with a median between thd awful fresh version and the interesting aged version. Mind you if you come across an aged bottle or keg at this point, consider it bumped up. boxofrane (2553) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 26, 2013
Draft. Pours black with minimum head. The aroma has a ton of raspberry, mint, light cocoa. Taste follows suit. Too cloying. Huhzubendah (3705) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 29, 2012
Growler shared by danbar. Thanks Dan.
The beer is dark brown, almost completely black, with a small beige head and some decent lacing on the tulip glass. The aroma = Andes candies. Wow. After dinner dessert mints in liquid form. Additional notes of raspberries sneak in. The flavor is really minty, with notes of chocolate, followed by raspberries. The beer is very sweet, and likely best in small quantities. One dimensional, and fun to sample. Overall, a truly interesting and unique beer from Dogfish Head. I would definitely recommend trying this, especially if you enjoy mint chocolates.

Pours a dark brown with red highlights. Aroma of roasted malt, fruit, mint. Tastes much the same, although the fruit comes out more artificially in flavor. Interesting, but not something I’d drink regularly.

Draft to snifter (from notes). Looks good; reddish-black color with frothy brown head that dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes of fruit and chocolate mint. Average on the palate. Alright, but a little over-the-top intense for me. pras (602) - Maryland, USA - SEP 20, 2012
This is some gross stuff. Waiter suggested a sample before a full pour. Glad he did. This stuff is almost un-drinkable. Tastes like cough syrup and not the good kind. radio_nowhere (1472) - Maryland, USA - SEP 7, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2012 Got a growler of this thinking it was something else for some reason. My mistake but something new. Poured into pint glass a dark black, minimal tan head. Aroma of mint, chocolate and some dark fruit. Taste brings out some licorice, a lot of sweetness and more mint. I can drink a glass of it, a whole growler seems to be pushing it. Won’t someone help me !? Not the worst growler purchase I have made .... ilovedarkbeer (2741) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - AUG 9, 2012
Holy mint. I can see why this is polarizing. Mint dark chocolate and raspberries. Think sticky almost goopy mouthfeel. Also herbal and tea like. Yum dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - AUG 1, 2012
Sampled at EBF. I figured this would be on the same lines of Black and Blue or Red and White. The minty flavor was kinnda there but I couldn’t really detect any fruit flavors to speak of. It was interesting but not something I’d wait in line for again.
