Pours copper-orange with a thick off-white head. Aroma is sweet and alcoholic. Taste is sweet with a citrus hop background. I was expecting the opposite. There’s a bit of dark fruit in there. Alcohol warmth is very noticeable. More barleywine/old ale than DIPA in my opinion. Since the hops are also "background" I think I’ll sit on these for a while and let the flavors mellow.

AROMA: Sweet nose with confectionery notes of toffee, caramel. Slight sherry oxidation character is fine. Citrusy/piney hops are present, but do not dominate. Moderate alcohol character. 8/12
APPEARANCE: Murky copper hue; very hazy body. Mammoth off-white frothy head retains and laces well. 3/3
FLAVOR: Moderately-sweet palette overall with English-style confectionery notes of toffee. Wood imparts slight vanilla and nutty flavors. Bitterness is strong, dank. Hop flavor akin to resin or citrus concentrate. Minor oxidation creates for sherry-like taste. Alcohol is quite prominent as it finishes with warming sensation. 14/20
MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with medium-low carbonation. Smooth, soft texture with noticeable alcohol warmth (not surprising consider it’s 10% ABV). 3/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Interesting, impressive hybridization of styles. May be a little too big, though. 7/10

From a bottle. Pours amber and makes a medium white head. Smells of hops and oak. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, and hop back taste. This is an original brew from one of my favorite breweries.

Doesn’t smell like much. Some oak, some hops but very muted. Surprising. Looks great, light brown with a dark cream head. Tastes malty and creamy with a dash of earthy hops at the end. Pours a cloudy copper-red, wispy ivory head. Aroma is phenomenal, woodiness, resin, honey, butterscotch, stone fruit and deep florals. Full on the tongue but still a carby bite...so much going on here, caramel, toffee, florals, pine, wood, apricot and earthiness....root vegetable. aroma - very sweet caramel, toffee, molasses and brown sugar. hint of vanilla with just a faint sign of oxidation.
appearance - pours deep amber, with a thin off-white head of maybe quarter inch thickness with low retention. the beer is hazy bordering on muddy although it seems to clear a bit as it warms. light lacing is observed.
taste - complex combination of bold malt sweetness together with intense bitterness that slams the palate. the evidence of oak aging is definitely there with vanilla notes in the background.
palate - this is a medium/full bodied beer with resiny, oily texture and pronounced astringency. medium carbonation. finishes long and strong with intense sweetness that lingers
overall - this beer is not for the faint of heart. obviously does not mellow with age as some other strong ales and barleywines. as with other DFH beers, it promises intensity and does not disappoint even after aging.

Aged IPA? Wow I had to taste this! Pours a amberish liquid almost clear with a small head that disappears to let only a circle around the glass. Not the usual nose of an IPA but what a smell! More like a lots of caramel malt, woody notes and almost smokey smells. Taste is heavy caramel malt, light to medium sweetness, wood notes, booze, resinous pine bitterness, full body, oily texture. pours a clear copper with a generous beige head. The aroma is weird for an IIPA, kinda smoky. Hints of floral or tropical. The taste is not super hoppy or citrusy. Kind of dank. There’s some definite malt presence. full oily mouth feel. Pleasant slightly bitter finish and linger. Alcohol is well muted for 10%. Different, but good! Slightly hazy orange/amber hue, persistent but thin white head. Nose is a beguiling blend of soft English hops, hint of citrus, and malt. Bitter. Middle is soft creamy malt, caramel , burst of orange marmalde, a little alcohol, and an oily medium mouthfeel. Finish is bittersweet and slightly woody. Well done. A very nice DIPA. I view 90 minute as a gateway IPA. This would be the next step to becoming a real hophead. (or starting the journey). Nose is nice and hoppy. Never ending head! A very enjoyable beer that a hop head will chose over 90 minute. The wood aging is subtle but it can be detected.
