COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate Lobster is a brew first brewed in 2012 that evolved from our Super Small Batch program that we began at the pub to make weird one-off batches for our beer dinners. Chocolate Lobster was originally brewed to pair with a chocolate lobster bisque and white chocolate lobster salad slider. Sam happened to be at that dinner and got a real kick out of the beer, so we decided to brew a big batch for the pub so everyone else could try it. This scaled-up batch has a robust porter base and was brewed with live lobsters, which were added directly to the boil to cook off for the kitchen. Along with the lobsters, just over 6 pounds of dark cocoa powder were added to the whirlpool, along with a basil tea that was added to compliment both the chocolate and lobster. The result is a rich dark ale with notes of bittersweet chocolate and roast, with a slight herbal nuance and a subdued taste of the ocean in the finish. Just like the song goes -- "it wasn’t a rock, it was a Choc Lobster!" Chocolate Lobster is now brewed every summer with lobsters shipped from our friends at Five Islands Lobster Co. in Georgetown, Maine.

On tap at Cap Tap. Pours dark brown with a thick foamy tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. If you use your imagination, you might also detect a lobster scent. There is a thin dark malt flavor with some cocoa and, yes, maybe some lobster. Very creative.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Fairly big chocolate on the nose. Kind of meaty on the tongue with a solid hop base. Finished clean. Pairs nicely with the warm brownie sundae. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

First pork roll and now a lobster beer. Dogfish brews a robust chocolate porter with hints of basil and a salty aftertaste I assume from the lobster.

Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate, roast, earthy and a touch of brine. Taste is sweet with some acidic bitters. Medium bodied, smooth, not quite oily texture. Soft carbonation with some lingering sweetness on the finish.

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left good lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty and a bit woody. The flavor was bitter, dry and roasty with salt and almost old bay. Definitely a maritime presence and in an odd way. Long finish. Medium body. Strange.

Pretty standard porter surprisingly. Not getting much from the lobster but it has a pretty pour & moderate aroma. Drinkable!

Dark brown black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, sea and some basil. Taste of roast, chocolate, basil, and a lighter saltiness in the finish.

Draft - Rich dark black color and zero head. Has an alcohol and salt smell to it. Has a salty taste to it as well, almost a mild habanero heat but there are no peppers in the mix. Don’t really taste the cocoa either. A different beer for sure, not a big fan.
