I wasnít overly impressed at first but as it warmed it won me over. A lot going, Vanilla from the barrel ( I think it would lose something if it ages), smokiness, maple and umami reminiscent of maple cured bacon. Canít detect gin notes from the juniper berries (hint of sour)? Caution: Alcohol is well hidden. Iím a big dude and I feel pretty good. Unique and worth a try.

Dark reddish brown with a thin light tan head. Belgian yeast and dark fruit aroma. Earthy, woody flavor with a slight boozy burn. Nice.

On tap at the brewery. Mahogany/copper with a slight haze, one-finger head and wispy lace. Deep rich aromas of caramel with ripe fruit, wood and grass. Flavors are similar, as caramel and dark fruit sweetness is accompanied by vanilla, oak, toast and leafy hops. Alcohol is minimal. Full body, moderate carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a lingering sweetness in the finish.

Bottled on 12/22/15, poured into a snifter glass. Nose is floral, burnt sugar, oak...very nice. Caramel color with slight lacing. This beer gets better as it warms. Well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle. Pours dark amber with thin off white head. Aroma is sweet and piney. Taste is sweet and a hint of smoke with a sweet warm malty finish. Was hoping to get more maple.

Bottle. Prune, smokey caramel malt, oak, and vanilla aroma. Cloudy medium brown with small head. Moderately sweet vanilla caramel malt and moderately bitter herbal hay flavor. Wood smoke and acidic finish. Nice.

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout glass From: Bine & Vine in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $4.31 (10 pct. off) Purchased: Feb. 26, 2016 Consumed: April 10, 2016 Misc.: Bottled on Jan. 22, 2016 Got this with a big purchase at Bine & Vine on Feb. 26. This was the last beer left to drink. Didnít know much about it, but liked what it said on the bottle. Not necessarily a big fan of Dogfish Head, but willing to give this one a shot. Poured an auburn, copper color with two fingers of rocky, khaki-tan head. Lots of small bubbles coming to the top of the glass. Average wet, foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Very good retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.75) Smelled roasty malts, roasted nuts, oaky notes, maple walnut, light toffee and hints of sweet caramel. (Smell - 3.50) Taste was richer and more complex than the nose. Getting roasty malts, smoky oak, dark maple walnut, toffee, vanilla beans, smoky wood, dark fruits and hints of molasses. Does not taste like 11 pct. ABV. Very good. (Taste - 4.25) Medium body. Creamy-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, smoky finish. (Feel - 4.00) Really liked this, basically as it hit my lips. Would like to see this aged for a bit. Probably had this a bit too cold as well. (Overall - 4.00) 3.97 89 B+

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a fluffy head. Aromas are faint malt, fruit, grass, a bit of leather. Flavors are roasty malts, dark fruit, raisin, cocoa, toffee, molasses, grass and bready tones. With each sip, another flavor appears. Very well rounded. Very noticeable alcohol presence. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, but otherwise surprisingly light. Low carbonation. Wonderfully complex. Boozy, malty and fruity. This is a delicious ale.

ffbot (417) - Oakland, California, USA - APR 10, 2016
Pour is a still, almost but not quite clear red with light purple and orange hints to it. Smell is maple, vanilla, oak, citrus, maybe a slight pine or grass. Taste is rich complex vanilla, balancing off maple, rich full bodied malt and a long, vanilla finish
