COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spitting in the eye of convention, Johhny Rawton Pils is an obnoxiously American Pilsner beer. Gobs of Palisade hops deliver 50 IBU’s of pure American excess to your senses. American Pilsner malt brings a bit of order to the riotous hop character. Rock on with Johnny Rawton!

Rating from memory. On tap at the alehouse in Gaithersburg. Crystal clear appearance. Very refreshing and crisp. A nice pilsner. Do they still make this one? If not they should.

This is definitely one of the best pilseners ever to have been brewed. It’s not your conventional pils, either. It pours a hazy and cloudy light golden color with a decent sized white head that leaves a nice amount of lacing around the glass. The nose is full of spicy and floral hops. The body is smooth, creamy and incredibly drinkable. The flavors are very hoppy, as well, with a nice crispness and malty backbone. I wonder if this beer took the place of their Prescription Pils (which evidentially doesn’t exist any more on RateBeer, for some reason). I remember that Pils being just a tad-bit better. This, nonetheless, is great on its own!

Growler courtesy of mday. Served in a tulip. Pours a very hazy yellowish-golden color with a big fluffy white head and a good amount of lacing. Very hazy throughout. Kind of strange for the style, but I’m guessing Dogfish didn’t really intend this to be just an American Pale Lager, so I’m going to go with it looks good. The nose is pretty nice with some bright citrus aroma and a bit of mild bready sweetness. Good hops. The taste lets back a bit from that but the combination of citrus and bitterness is quite nice. A good tone of bitterness throughout. Body is fairly light and this is quite drinkable. Solid beer. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 01-20-2011

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2011 12 oz draft served in a served in a snifter at dogfish head. Pour is cloudy gold with a finger of white head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is yeast, spices, cloves, and light bananas. Taste is spices, yeast, and cloves. This beer is a pilsner, but it came off to me like a Belgian ale. I can’t knock the brew on much but it wasn’t a favorite.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2010 On tap at the Rehoboth brewpub (12-15-10) Surprised to see this one on tap. Clear-ish yellow color, with a big frosty head. Smells good. Citrus, grassy, lemon with some hops. Taste is a clean pilsner. Lightly hopped, with some grass and lemon flavor. Good stuff. Body is light and fluffy. Overall: Enjoyable pils

On tap at the Rehoboth pub. Poured a pale golden color with moderate white puffy head. Smell is sweet and crisp with a noticeable hop presence. Flavor is light and refreshing with bitter floral hops. Finishes with a light malt character. A nice drinkable beer.

POured a clear bright yellow color with an off white head. Aroma was of lots of grass, some mild german hops, and light sweet malts. Flavor was really grassy, not asmuch of the sweetness showed, but at least there was a bit of hops to add some flavor.
