COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, we’ve now taken this Dogfish Head classic and aged it on oak with real vanilla beans! With a little tender love and care we foster this beer from smooth, sweet wort into the big, bad blackened stout it always longed to be. Its bold, port-like complexity goes great with (or as) dessert.

2017 vintage, pricey at $9.99 for 12 ounces. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Aroma is rich with vanilla and wood. Tastes of malt, vanilla, and oak. Touch of booze in there too. This is complex and delicious brew, thumbs way up! Excellent.

Bottle at Black Christmas 2017
Black color. Thick beer, strong chocolate character, some vanilla, and oak; quite boozy.
Intense.

bottle - Jet black pour with no head. Aroma is chocolate, roast malt, booze, and soy sauce. The flavor is very sweet with chocolate, malt, booze, vanilla, and more, but mostly it's really sweet. Thick. It's good, but I didn't find it to be truly outstanding. I'm a bit underwhelmed because I loved the original so much and I usually love imperial stouts. This one's not as great or my tastes have changed over the years or both. Ah well.

Tap at Grizzly's. Dark dense oily pour with a thin head. Boozy and port like, vanilla, dark fruit. Wood. Great.

On tap at Champps in Brookfield out of their anniversary list. Congrats, guys. Almost black pour. Beige head. Nose has booze, caramel, raisin, chocolate. A touch of nut. Big grain, as the base is. Taste is boozy sweet malty and grainy, caramel, raisin, some chocolate. Whew! (still). Full bodied (duh) with alcohol. Finishes sweet alcoholly than bittersweet. Shrug? Another very big brew, likely not with pizzazz, beyond the abv. 13.6

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out light vanilla, with cocoa and a touch of oak. Flavour is harsh, with heavy vanilla, oak, and sweet cocoa. Lots of vanilla and alcohol. Fun stuff, but I prefer the base beer.

12 oz. 2016 bottle. Pours a rich black color with a quick tan head. Aroma is of wood, bourbon, alcohol and some dried fruit. Full body. Flavor is sweet and echoes the aroma. Finish is warming. I wish I had more to say about this one, do yourself a favor. Excellent!

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2017 Draught at Beer Basement tasting. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, vanilla, alcohol, coffee, nuts, toffee and chocolate. Bitter finish with roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, alcohol, oak and toffee. Good, but way too boozy.

Bottle. Black with a tan head. Vanilla, roast, oak and coffee. Thick and smooth. Lots of roasty booziness that goes right up into the sinuses. Rich and sweet, but not too much so. Complex and lovely.
