4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
aroma is big alcohol esters of apricot, orange and pineapple. super juicy. big spirity wave hits you dead in the face as your nose roams dangerously closer. translucent ruby with nearly nil carb. flavor is amazingly smooth and more juiciness but less esterous then the aroma. still some orange exists. suprisingly not nearly as syrupy as the ABV would have me guess. so potent, this shakes you to your core with every sip -- you FEEL it. nowhere near the level of the other DFH vodka bombs so be not fearful. this beer is dangerously fun.
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2018 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottlepoured into a glass. Clear light Amber with small white head poured into glass. Aroma is caramel malt, medium carbonation, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and some dark fruit. balloonbuffoon (803) - - JAN 18, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2018 12floz bottle, BOD: 01.18.2017 (faint imprint on the neck), $5 single, large stem snifter type of glass. This is a murky, ruby colored beer that has small glistening beige head. Smells richly of dates with a boozy essence.
A big, bad, bold beauty of a brew. It strikes with soft carbonation, low bitterness, restrained sweetness, and a buzzy alcohol feel/taste without being too hot. Flavor of note are dates/figs and honey-caramel. This is an example of an ultra high ABV beer that works. Imperial barleywine... willisread (3924) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 14, 2018
Late 2016-Early 2017 bottle from Val-U aged for a year. Pours a pretty copper with a finger of off-white foam that lingers, then dissipates. Very fruit-forward nose: bright raspberry, plum and currant. Sweet on the palate without being cloying. Dried apricot, fig and more fresh plum, and apricot. Some raisin and currant as it warms. Finish is a bit warming but feels nowhere near 15%. Really solid. allfreej (567) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - DEC 24, 2017
A January 2017 bottle after almost a year in the cellar. Tawny pour, light head, decent lacing. Nose is sweet malt, golden raisins, and old wood. Flavor is sweet malt up front with enough carbonation to balance things out. Little to no hop flavor or aroma. Finish has a hint of alcohol heat, but that’s only to be expected.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2017 Draught at Beer Basement tasting. Copper color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, resin, dried fruits, alcohol, pine and toffee. Bitter finish with citrus, dried fruits, resin, toffee, alcohol and pine. Good, but way too boozy.

Pouring with a smaller foam head
Aroma of alcohol first then of fruity cider
Smooth and flavorful until you swallow then the alcohol burn hits the back of your throat. Good barely wine style but at 15% alcohol it’s a sipper.

Chyba za swiezy troszke, ale fajny mimo to, te owoce dowaline czuc w smaku, slodkie, nieco syropowe, goryczka niemala. W sumie smaczne to, a bedzie imho lepiej

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2017 W aromacie melasa, ciemne owoce, czyć słodowość, lekki karmel, ale dość mało intensywny aromat, alkohol się przebija. W smaku dość słodkie, goryczkowe, lekka kwasowość. Całkiem treściwe, alkohol mocno wyczuwalny na finiszu. Nie jest to ideał w stylu... The_Osprey (9854) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 31, 2017
October 2017 - Bottle share in Hackney. Big thanks to Kenny. As 'Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine', a mere 15%, 2005 vintage. Hazy orange, still, foamy off-white head. Aroma is orange and resin, also a little oxidised. Body is smooth, soft to low carbonation. Taste is sugary, some orange peel, rich malts, alcoholic finish. A little oxidation showing up in the middle. Hard to escape that at 12 years old but still very drinkable and an enjoyable beer. Intense caramel, molasses, dark, sweet malts. Hazy born, no head. Heavy sweet. More caramel, sweet grain malts, molasses, soft carbonation, full bodied. Very nice Barley Wine, aged not too bad. Bottle shared at Leighton's - thanks to madmitch76!
