COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Brown Ale aged on palo santo wood from Paraguay. This beer is a 12% abv, highly roasty, and malty brown ale aged on the wood of the Palo Santo tree from Paraguay. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and it's wood has been used in South American wine-making communities. We were lucky enough to get our hands on 20 blocks of the super-dense wood and the wood was added to the ageing tank after fermentation.

A rich dark color with a tan head. Aroma is that of an alcoholic chocolate milkshake (malted) Plenty of alcohol in the aroma but still interesting enough. Flavor is a bit lifeless, with a heavy alcoholic flavor. I don’t get a lot of wood character, but I’m not sure what I’m looking for. My main impression is that of an unroasty imperial stout. Same sort of thickness, body wise as well as alcoholic perception.

I remember a time when I didn’t even look at the alcohol content of the beers I tried. Good thing I do now. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Malty chocolate smell, superbly dark for a red. Woody taste comes on strong then slowly dissipates, after which the high alcohol content is quite apparent. Creamy with stout-like head. A serious beer, not for relaxing times. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle at home. Dark brown/black with a small tan head, some lacing. Caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, muted hops, dark cherry fruit. Full-bodied, holds the alcohol very well. Wood comes through on the long smooth finish, really nice. Found this at a grocery store in Moncks Corner, the next one gets a cigar.

Pours jet black and opaque with a nice dark, tan, 2-finger head with an aroma of wood and malt. Tastes of malt and slightly sweet cocoa with a slightly bitter wood and booze finish with a hint of nuts. It's medium to full bodied, drinkable and thinner than expected with minimal carbonation. The long finish reminds me of a dry, wood cabernet. It's unique and warming.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2017 From bottle in tulip. Pours dark brown with thin tan head, and woody, earthy aroma mixed with molasses and booze. Rich taste (a mix of the above) with a sweet sticky finish. Enjoyable experience.

Sweet, dark intense chocolate, vanilla, spices, dark chocolate. Hazy, dark brown, small, creamy, white head. Heavy sweet. More cacao, heavy sweet, rich and complex malts, soft carbonation, full bodied. Very nice ASA, bit punchy in the palate. Keg at Rattle’n’Hum Easy, Midtown.

Yum! Dark, rich brown in color with deep caramel head that diminishes quickly. Smell of sweet and malt. Taste is deep and complex. Starts off sweet and ends strong and roasty. Easy to drink for a 12% alcohol beer. ---I'm new at rating, so please bear with me

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’ place. Thanks Adam S. Black with a tan ring. Some BBQ and hickory sauce in the nose. Sweet, rich, BBQ sauce and some dates in the mouth. Sticky, full body, slight fizz and sticky texture, rich sweet and a little bitter finish.
