3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
pours a thick black color with an average sized tan head. aroma is sweet, of dark cherries, coffee, caramel, and chocolate. flavor is intense, with a mixture of vanilla bean, caramel, toffee, and a bit of smoke. alcohol is well hidden in this brew but also quite balanced.
Bottle. Dark brown color, tanned head. Aroma has some oak, some coffee, smooth raisins. Smooth and round taste, oak, plums, hint of bread. Very nice. JBell14 (178) - Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 20, 2017
Bottled 1/17/17 opened 12/20/17. Pours very dark almost black with mining head. Fruity aroma, others have described as raisins. Get a little cherry flavor with some chocolate notes. Light body. Nor as boozy as I thought for 12%

12floz bottle, no date, lost record of four-pack purchase, large stem snifter glass. Appears an opaque dark brown with brown head. The raisin aroma is found as flavor battling the molasses tide. Full, heavy, sippin' beer. Kind of a lot to take in. ALIBALI (2902) - Kiel, GERMANY - DEC 14, 2017
355ml US-Bottle from Scottie. Thannnxxx!!! 💋 Bill Becker (2056) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - DEC 7, 2017

I got this bottle in a trade with nutbrown. Thanks Alan!
A near pitch black pour with the slightest of brownish hues, I got a +1 finger head of tan foam. Excellent head retention and lots of lacing.
I get a lot of wood in the nose along with some fruit. licorice, chocolate, and some caramel malt.
The taste is a malt lover's dream. Malty sweetness with some roastiness..it kind of has that Milk Stout malty flavour. Yum. Plenty of chocolate and some coffee and the woodiness adds a nice dimension without being over powering, and I get some dark fruit flavour and licorice as well.
Mouthfeel borders on thick, carbonation is lightish, and it finishes with a nice fruity flavour that brings just the slightest amount of tartness with it. Man, and the alcohol is *very* well hidden; sure there's *some* warming after the swallow but it's minimal for such a big beer.
Bottom line: I really like this American Brown Ale as it has all sorts of good flavours going on and it's a wonderful sipper. Highly recommended!

On the enormous side of the ale spectrum. Plums, raisins, chocolate, bourbon in the aroma. Fabulously sweet taste with the oak kicking in for a smoothly dry finish--though less so on the dryness as the beverage warms. Very, very good bottle with a nicely redesigned label. I remember a time when I didn’t even look at the alcohol content of the beers I tried. Good thing I do now.

Malty chocolate smell, superbly dark for a red. Woody taste comes on strong then slowly dissipates, after which the high alcohol content is quite apparent. Creamy with stout-like head. A serious beer, not for relaxing times.

12oz bottle at home. Dark brown/black with a small tan head, some lacing. Caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, muted hops, dark cherry fruit. Full-bodied, holds the alcohol very well. Wood comes through on the long smooth finish, really nice. Found this at a grocery store in Moncks Corner, the next one gets a cigar. beern (254) - Alabama, USA - SEP 12, 2017
Pours jet black and opaque with a nice dark, tan, 2-finger head with an aroma of wood and malt. Tastes of malt and slightly sweet cocoa with a slightly bitter wood and booze finish with a hint of nuts. It's medium to full bodied, drinkable and thinner than expected with minimal carbonation. The long finish reminds me of a dry, wood cabernet. It's unique and warming.
