A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Bottle (750 ml) @ Akkurat. Shared by Ansalon, thanks! Amber/golden with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is soapy with winey notes, a bunch of spices (including coriander), orange peel and oak. Taste is also quite soapy and malty with spices, orange peel notes, light winey presence and oak. Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Soapy finish. Tasty, but quite heavy and the spiciness doesn’t help the drinkability. A Dogfish Head kind of beer...

Bottle at Akkurat shared with friends. Hazy copper pour with thin white head. Aroma is quite winey, lots of grape, leafy notes, some cherry and a lot of spice. Taste is not as fruity, lots of wheat, grainy, still a strong winey character, some alcohol. Palate is full bodied with med carbonation, a bit heavy.

Bottle - big foamy head, hazy dark orange color, citrus and Belg yeasty spice aroma and flavor, mildly sweet malt backbone, fair yeast complexity - very good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

In tulip glass from the bottle. Slightly hazy deep orange with a quickly disappearing off white head. The smell is Belgian yeast. Spicy, citrus, and bready. The Pinot Noir grapes add additional complexity but are well hidden. High alcohol with a typical tripel spiciness. Some clove, fresh bread, and some chocolate flavors. Less grape notes than expected. The woody oak notes from the barrel ageing add a nice earthiness. Light long lingering hippy bitterness. Great and complex beer!

Copper color. Hazy with a little alcohol taste but not overpowering. Definite wheat and citrus taste. A little grape in the finish. Overall very nice and easy drinking.

"i’m still at odds on this one. it started out just sweet with not nearly as much complexity as expected. obviously as it warmed from 45, it got better and more complex. i’m still not sure about the interplay betweeen the sweet pinot aspects and the bitter orange peel, but the aftertaste that was a little harsh at first was better by the end of the bottle. the aroma was nice right off the bat. sweet but complex...grapes, citrus, malt. nice body...maybe a little cloying. not my favorite DFH beer, but not bad. better beers for the price, though

Draught at Elizabeth Station, Bellingham
Cloudy golden color with compact head. Nice aroma, mildly fruity and woody. Good body strength, moderate sweetness, with light impression of sweet white wine.
Good beer.

Bottle... Poured hazy orange with a nice forming head. A little dry with wheat and citrus zest notes. A hint of grapes, musk, with some yeast spicing and esters. Great with food.

jflopsu (1615) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 14, 2014
Pours a hazy orange with white head. A faint aroma of orange and coriander. A wheaty, yeasty, orange peel, and coriander taste. A dry aftertaste.
