COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A modern update on a 9th century Finnish proto-beer. Brewed with rye, we caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side we added a sort of tea made with coriander, cardamom, lemon grass, Indian Black Tea, and ramps leaves. The spicing is subtle and balanced and Sahtea is a highly-quaffable, truly-unique brew with a full-mouth feel.

From a bottle poured a dark copper color with a small head. Aroma was much stronger than the flavor. Flavor sweet and spicy with a quick finish.

Hazy gold, slight head. Aroma is spicy, rather like, well, tea, with a hint of banana. Flavor is initially tea oriented, followed by some honey accented malts, with a clove and banana finish. The German hefe notes really don’t come out until this one has warmed up. Interesting, subtle, and balanced.

Bottle at Septemberfest. Cloudy, gold-orange with a small head that runs away. Nose is overpowering banana and allspice. Tastes of honey, cinnamon and sweet alcohol. Light-medium body is syrupy sweet and smooth. The spicing is quite a bit more than subtle or balanced.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2009 Bottle. 25.4 oz. Pours golden orange with a thick, frothy white head. Aroma of cinnamon, chai tea, lavender, grapefruits, lemon zest, hay, wheat, and slight hints of dry hops. Medium bodied with a tangy, tart mouthfeel and a slow, slightly sticky finish. Excellent special ale.

Bottle. Pours a light amber, almost yellow with a cloudy middle and smallish, white head. Aromas of juniper berries, green tea, coriander, and a nice citrus hint. Mouth feel is extremely smooth, with a full and slick finish. Flavors of bananas, coriander, and a hint of berries on the aftertaste. One terrific beer that I will be sure to be purchasing again!

Bottle at lithy’s Septemberfest. Pours hazy gold with almost nonexistent head. The aroma is laudry detergent, ginger, sugar, and more ginger. The flavor is bubblegum and ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a sweet candy finish. Just too much spice crap going on for me to enjoy this one.

Bottle. Amber pour. Light head. Nice lacing. Aroma is spicy and full of herbal tea. I certainly get some cinammon, brown sugar, and caramel in the aroma. Flavor is full of the tea, cinammon, caramel, plums, light hops...very fun beer to drink. I like it.

750ml bottle. Hazy amber body topped by small but persistent off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, cardamom, juniper berry, chai, light molasses. Taste is moderately sweet, cardamom, tea, some spice, caramel, melon, cane sugar, light alcohol. Medium-full body, some stickiness.

Really spicy and sweet. . It pours cloudy gold, with a ring of foam. It smells, and I amnot kidding, like gum and Atomic Fireballs. Flavor is very spicy - ginger, cinnamon, allspice. Butters is right, this could almost pass for a pumpkin beer. Sampled at lithy’s Septemberfest.
