COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A modern update on a 9th century Finnish proto-beer. Brewed with rye, we caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side we added a sort of tea made with coriander, cardamom, lemon grass, Indian Black Tea, and ramps leaves. The spicing is subtle and balanced and Sahtea is a highly-quaffable, truly-unique brew with a full-mouth feel.

Bottle sample at Vova’s Hoppy Beerthday tasting at Dancing Camel Florentin. Thanks Yoav. Golden with floaties. Huge cardamom and clove aroma, with other spices and some fruitiness. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, cardmamom, clove, some fruitiness, a tart hint. Medium-bodied. Not my thing.

Bottle from Dilly Deli. Poured a clear golden color with an average off-white frothy head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Good aroma of dough, juniper and banana. Medium to full body with smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy complex bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. Interesting complex brew.

Sample at AleFest Columbus (06/27/09): This brew pours a cloudy golden-orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Interesting aroma of chai tea, citrus and bananas. Medium body with flavors of vanilla chai, peaches, spices and honey. The finish is mildly spiced with a lingering citrus aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

WTF is a traditional ale, this certainly isn’t traditional. As far as a sahti goes it is pretty crappy not one of my favorites form DFH.
