A modern update on a 9th century Finnish proto-beer. Brewed with rye, we caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side we added a sort of tea made with coriander, cardamom, lemon grass, Indian Black Tea, and ramps leaves. The spicing is subtle and balanced and Sahtea is a highly-quaffable, truly-unique brew with a full-mouth feel.

Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Large visible sediments in the beer that may seem off putting but do not have any effect on the taste or mouthfeel. Smells-Spicy and sweet. Cinnamon and chai are definitely present with some hints of clove or anise. Tastes- Sweet and pleasant. Cinnamon and chai dominate but there is a hint of black licorice that is very pleasant. Mouthfeel- Thick full body. Overall-Nice sweet/spiced beer. I will definitely try again.

Multiple bottles in 2010, Shared this one with Pat, pours hazy orange with a thicker sized foam. Smell and taste are lemon lime juniper, cinnamon, german malt, cardamom, all spice, and other dark earthy notes. Probably over spiced even for the ingredients but Ive always liked Indian profiles especially Hashish.

Pours a clear amber color. Aromas of pine/malts and a touch of citrus/berries. Flavor is a little different. I thought it would be more pine tasting. A little berry flavor and some hop bitterness near the end.

Bottle - good size foamy head, hazy burnt orange color with lots of "floaties" (maybe bad poor?), big fruity/berry aroma and flavor, moderate spice (from the tea I guess), a little different but in a good way overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear Amber color. $12.99/750ml is pricey versus alternatives in this market. Just not true to original style.
