3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle with a bottling date of 2/18/13 so this is very fresh. This is listed as having an abv of 10.2% here but the back of the bottle says 9.0%. Anyway, it pours a light orange/amber with a slight haze and lots of head. The smell is not typical for a DIPA and is predominantly a candied sweetness, caramel malt and alcohol. Despite this beer being very fresh, and some of the reviews mentioning hops, I am not noticing much of a hop presence at all in the aroma. The taste is bitter but there is also a sweetness there. I would prefer if it wasn’t as sweet but at least it isn’t cloying. The body is medium and the finish is dry. The alcohol is also hidden very well. Closer to a barleywine than a DIPA.
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2017 Bottle in the Poconos with Caressa, Apollo, and the wife. Aroma is sugary tropical fruits. Flavor is sweet grainy malts, citrus pith, and piney resinous hops on the astringent finish. Jow (4028) - Orlando, Florida, USA - AUG 19, 2017

Poured from bottle thanks Airforcehops dated 9/14/16 orange with a white head. Aromas of caramel malt floral hops and some faint citrus. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malt and lingering bitterness from the hops. Not citrus really there. Probably better fresh. trapped (3483) - New York, TURKEY - JAN 5, 2017

Bottle from a 12 pack, named the "Pinup Pack". Bottled on 9-14-16. Golden amber-ish color with much head to speak of. Aroma has sweet fruits, sweet caramel, tangy pine and floral notes.
Taste is backed by plenty of sweet caramel malts leading into floral and some abrasiveness from pine. Medium to full bodied with a sticky texture over the tongue. Some alcohol presence. Finishes solidly bitter. Bitter in the sense of higher IBU’s without a welcoming hop flavor. Still drinkable but I got to say I like the two other styles in the mixed 12 pack much more than this one.
