Dominion Lager is brewed using four types of malted barley: Two-Row Pale Brewers malt, Munich, Carapils, and Caramel. The bittering hops are Perle and Hallertau from the Yakima Valley in Washington State. The aromatic hops are domestic Tettnang, German Hallertau Hersbrucker, and Czech Saaz. This combination of malt and hops, along with a classic lager yeast from Germany, and the long, low-temperature lagering process results in a mild, smooth, flavorful, complex beer that is a delight to drink.

On tap in DC: Golden color with a large frothy head and some lacing, thin to medium-bodied. Aroma comes across as roasted malt and fruity hops, detected a faint hint of vanilla. Nice german taste, balanced between hops and malt, I liked this a lot. Finished short and a bit astringent. I'm in complete agreement that this beer is far better than the ale, recommended.

This beer poured a golden color and formed a foamy white head that left some lace as it slowly subsided. An aroma of malt, hops and grain with a touch of caramel. A flavor of malt, hops and caramel. The finish was light with some hint of caramel and grain. A nice lager but a bit sweet for the style in my opinion.

Bottled. Not bad. Had worse. Had better. Had a German taste to it.

An average lager. Not bad, but not great either. I'd drink it again - but I say that about most of the beers that I've tried.

Bottled on Dec 09,2002. Poured out a clear golden color, with a long lasting head that also left lots of lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas of malts, some slight caramel, and slightly hoppy as well. Tasted ok, but past it's prime to be certain. I might try it again, if I can find it fresher.

I highly recommend this beer. Very smooth and drinkable. One of the better beers I have tasted.

Medium gold color. Small head. Aroma is malty and slightly sweet. A medium bodied dortmunder/helles. Malts are mild, slightly sweet and a touch fruity. Hops are mild as well. Spicy and citrusy, but not very bitter. This is a very well balanced beer. It smooth as silk and very clean tasting. Nice ‘lager’. Excellent gateway beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

It's a good beer. Not a fan favorite at the VFW but most of those guys drink whiskey.

Smooth and refreshing, yet still lots of flavor. Almost a sweet caramel taste to it. Makes me proud to be from Virginia.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2003 Gold in colour, mild in smell...strong taste-more like a nice ale! In fact, I prefer this beer over the Dominion Ale! Re-rate: Golden body with a very dense, fluffy white head. Very hoppy aroma, dry-hopped with Saaz. Malty taste, perfectly mixed with nice hops. A great beer...I had this on draught at the brewery tour. Tasted at the Dominion Brewery in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.
