Pours muddy amber with no head. Aromas of raisins, dried fruit, ripe apple, oak chips, honey. Taste is very sweet with ripe tropical fruit and some slight sourness and no bitterness. Bottle, 2013 thanks to nimbleprop. Pours crystal clear burnt umber, small off-white head, dissipates quickly and quite bubbly. Aroma is oak, toffee, dark fruit. Draft sample at Dominion Wine & Beer. 2011 vintage aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. Dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of caramel, butterscotch. Cloudy amber pour with a tan thin head. Sweet malt, caramel oak and vanilla. Lots of bourbon in the flavor ....a really nice barley wine.

Pours from the bottle with a murky, opaque, milk-chocolate brown color that is spotted by little bits of floating sediment. There is effectively no head whatsoever other than a thin ring that was generated by a vigorous pour. The aroma is quite mellow but pleasant, with the a combination of sweet whiskey, vanilla, and wood contributed from the barrel-aging dominating anything else. The flavor is again surprisingly mellow, especially for an 11.4% alcohol beer (bottling date says 11/17/06, so must be all that age), but it certainly presents defined characteristics of caramel malts, bourbon, oak, and vanilla again. For as sweet as it tastes and how much carbonation it has lost over time, it’s not terribly syrupy. Rather, it has a solid medium body that allows the flavors to linger appropriately. Overall, if I had to do it over again, I would have tasted this beer a few years ago, but I was glad to try it even if it is over-aged. DCLawyer (2914) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - MAR 13, 2014

its tough to read, but looks like a 2007 bottle from sloth. pours hazy burnt orange. nose of dark fruit, oak. taste is only slightly oxidized but has many of the notes in the nose with a dull undertone of oak. body is creamy with slight burn on the finish. Bottle from 17Nov2006 that I just got from Matt Capone. Pours a ruby red to slight burnt orange with some head. Nose is caramel, stove top hard candy, vanilla and toffee. first sip is similar but not quite as intense but still plesant. finish is sweet malty and clean with fruity aldehydes. Pours hazy tan into a snifter, small head. Looks like sherry. Aromas are toffee, vanilla and cherry. Taste is wood, bourbon, vanilla, cherry, some toffee, and bitter hoppiness that is muted on the finish. Not nearly as sweet as I was expecting, and the booze is not real pronounced or hot. Hits all the right BW notes, and the oaky vanilla really rounds this one out. My favorite BW so far...
