Reviewed 12/22/2012. 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a very dark brown color with good opacity. The head is quite nice - a two finger khaki color with a fantastic fluffy texture. It’s also slow to recede, though I’m a bit let down at the lack of significant lacing.
S: There’s quite a lot of dark chocolate and vanilla in the aroma. I can also pick up some roasted and smoked malts, a twinge of dark fruits, and mocha. Oaky notes don’t really pop up. Still, a great example of a ’subtle’ aroma.
T/M: The front end of flavors are very vanilla heavy, but the sweetness is nullified somewhat by the clean, bone dry finish. This closely resembles an Irish stout in terms of how it drinks. Most of the other flavors pop up as random subtleties - hints of roasted malt, hints of chocolate, hints of smoke - to help augment the primary note of vanilla. This beer generally finishes quick and roasty, with a surge of oak tannins to help give its finishing characteristics. Wow, I’m surprised how much I like it.
O: This is one of those hidden gems I regret not purchasing sooner. Hell, it’s available in some GAS STATIONS in VA. A great session stout - think Guinness infused with vanilla, oak tannins, and steroids.

his one pours from 12oz bottle(bottled 091907) a near pitch black with some reddish hues and a small tannish head of foam that recedes to a fine broken layer half way through the session but it has some good lacing.
The smell is of caramel malt, vanilla, chocolate, and bourbon. It's nice.
The taste has all sorts of flavours going on. Lots of vanilla and bourbon and wood with helpings of chocolate, roasted malt, a slight citrus bitterness in the background and it finishes witha nice hot cocoa bitter bite but..it's smooth as all hell and it doesn't hurt that it's only 5.2%abv; it makes it sessionable as hell. lol Man, is this son of a gun drinkable and velvety smooth. Great fullish mouthfeel and it's lightly carbonated. I like this one a lot!! Lots of flavour, easy to drink, smooth, this has it all going on. I'd get this one again, no problem. gripweed57 (2871) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - JUN 29, 2017
12 ounce bottle. Opaque dark brown color. Small creamy beige head. Roasted malt flavor is a bit thin. Notes of oak and vanilla, I think? A bit of chocolate on the finish. No barrels were harmed in the making of this stout. anthony850 (473) - Andover, New Jersey, USA - JUN 24, 2017
Nice bourbon and oak flavor. With a hint of vanilla.

bottle. pours black with the tiniest glimmer of ruby. minimal, off-white head which drifts away quickly leaving a patchy lacing on the glass.
aroma fairly bland, nothing standing out. some slight coffee but nothing pushing through.
bitter tastes abound, balanced well with dark chocolate. burnt flavours in the background. very smooth oath/creamy finish, which lingers long and disappears gradually. ffaoe (921) - Moorestown, New Jersey, USA - DEC 31, 2016

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours very dark brown with a tan head and some lacing. The aroma is vanilla and some oak. The taste is vanilla, milk, and oatmeal. It’s very smooth. The vanilla tastes natural and isn’t overpowering. This was a lot better than expected. I’d get more from this brewery. MarkSachon (1054) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 5, 2016
12 oz bottle. This had a nice taste overall with real flavor from the oak barrel. One of the better oak stouts on the market. MikeFurl (15) - New Mexico, USA - SEP 23, 2016
Tried on draft. Solid stout with good taste and finish. Not as heavy as Guiness but still quite filling.

Dommage katrinaez (2250) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 30, 2016
Low oak scent and flavour, a bit watery. Slight sweetness up front. Not a lot of hops or bitter, but still a nice velvet coating and a thick enough to a be a decent style for the beer. Bottle
