3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Roasthouse Pub in Frederick, MD. I snagged a few sips from my wife. Hazy brown color with tan head. Aroma of sour dark fruit, malt sweetness, chocolate and a little vinegar. Taste pretty good, not as sour or vinegary as aroma led on. Medium body, fizzy yet smooth. Not bad.
Tap. Max’s. Pours a clear ruby body with a one finger frothy beige head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is a bit off to me. There’s a bit of a sour note and a bit of wood, but also a little buttery note that kind of turns me off. A little big of chocolate sneaks out the more I smell it with a slight vinous undertone. The flavor is pretty similar to my first impression though. There’s a little too much of the buttery flavor coming out and not enough wood or sourness. Medium bodied with lots of fizzy carbonation. This one just missed the mark for me. AxlLives (288) - Maryland, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Tap at Roasthouse - pours hazy brown caramel with smallish tan head, mostly diminishing. Interesting notes of esters, aromatic cocoa, and dried sour fruit. Tastes very nice, touch of sourness at the front, more brownish at the middle, with sour finish. Lively palate, nicely hopped. Good brew and not too sour for my tastes. On tap at Churchkey’s Night of the Living Ales event. Poured a dark ruby color with a wispy head. Aroma is lacto-sweetness, with some sour notes along with this one. Grain character, some fruits in there. Drinkable, a good attempt from a brewery I wouldn’t have expected this from.
