This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. Course theres always the masochists...

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2007 Sweet floral aroma, and a beautiful mapley appearance. Nice lingering head. Taste is as expected from aroma, beautiful sweetness with well rounded bitterness, and a mapley finish. ($5/22oz)

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2005 oh Stone, youve done it again. This is a great stronger and fuller version of arrogant bastard ale. Has similar floral aroma. with a slightly more alcohol flavor and after taste. beautiful deep amber/ cherry color. Great combo of hops and malts. only complaint is head could be longer lasting. Try this if you find it.

Pours a dark muddy brown. Alcohol is not very well masked in this beer. I was very disappointed in the overall performance of this. Then again I found the case against the back wall, buried at my local beer distributor. Warm case too. Wonder how long it was sitting?

A great beer, but I found it was actually less enjoyable than arrogant bastard. The greater amount of malt and higher alcohol eclipsed the hoppiness that made arrogant bastard so enjoyable. I felt the alcohol was pretty poorly masked as well. The high IBUs are still very apparent in the aftertaste, when your mouth kind of feels ravaged.

Note: This rating is for the 2004 Double Bastard, 5 months after initial distribution. Malt and alcohol aroma predominant. Deep transparent brown with reddish amber accents. Heavy body, large malt character match with high bitterness. Definitely more melded and subtle in flavor characteristic than a younger bottle. High alchohol warmth, particularly noticable in the finish. Despite such massive character, the hallmark of Stone, that residual sweetness from lower attenuation and floral ester combination is present. Just not center stage.

Oh my god. This is truly the motherload of aggressive beer. Like most of the stronger Stone offerings, its flavor varies widely with temperature. Do not try this at refrigerator temperature, unless you want a mouthfull of bitterness. However, the contrast between its starting bitterness and the malty sweetness as it warms into cellaring temperature in the 50s makes drinking the entire bomber as it warms an experience not to be missed. Its almost a vertical tasting in a single bottle.

bottle 3/17/05. Pours a very deep amber color with a large off white head. Very impressed with the nose that is filled with fruits. Very malty and extrmley hoppy. The hops are incredible and presnet in the smell and taste. The 10% alcohol cant be detected. Easily the best Stone beer that ive had but im sure they have even better for me to try.

Pour was a dark murky brown, nose filled with dark fruits, nuts, malts. Very heavy brew, taste similar to smell but more potent. Overall an enjoyable experience. Thanks to brewmaster for the hookup.

A cloudy amber color with thin head. Very malty and hoppy taste which almost (but not quite) offsets the strong alcohol flavor...due to the 10% alcohol! I wasnt sure if I had cracked a bottle of wine gone bad or one of the better beers Ive tasted:) As the label says...this is a lacerative muther of a beer!
