This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. Course theres always the masochists...

Pours brown with a creamy head. Aroma is hoppy, grassy, wth some maltyness. Taste is bitter, sweet, hoppy. Full bodied with a loooong bitter after taste. An outstanding beer

2004 22 oz bottle. Pours a reddish copper with a big fluffy off-white (almost orangeish) head that retains well and laces the glass. The first pour is clear, the second has some miniscule floaties.

The aroma is piney, grassy hops, some pineapple fruitiness, and a dose of spicy alcohol.

The flavor is sweet fruity caramel malts, pepper, and some woodiness followed by a big spicy alcoholic hop finish. It is medium to full bodied and fairly velvety, with a slightly sticky mouthfeel.

Overall, an excellent brew. Big in every way (especially hops and alcohol), yet not overbearing and fairly well balanced - it is almost too sweet at times. The more I drink, the smoother it gets! Reminds me quite a bit of Great Divides Old Ruffian.

Poured from bottle. Ruby red with medium size white head that gives way to good lacing. Floral aroma with alcohol present. Hop flavor with some sweet grapes and alchohol burn. Great coating mouthfeel. Very enjoyable beer.

Ruby red color with a foamy head that leaves some great lacing down the glass. A rather hoppy aroma(floral and grapefruit) with a lot of sweetness as well, almost sugar like. Ther was some alcohol as it warms. A huge kick of bitter hops in the taste. But a sweet, almost too sweet, malt backbone keeps this from becoming too one dimentional. it is still very extreme. Thick syrupy mouthfeel, clingy all the way down.

Pours beautiful ruby brown, smallish off-white head, lacing that oils the sides of the glass. Nose is complicated. Initially I got creamy caramel and earthy malts. This gives way to a smoky, slightly aged whisky barrel note. The flavor is astounding. Oily, buttery malt fights with grapefruit hops, balanced yet still bitter, neutron star gravity. Mouthfeel is oily with alcohol and ester rushing. Aftertaste lingers and sends you back for more. Therefore...

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2007 Bought and drank the 3 liter version of this beer with a friend and had a really great evening. Very strong but goes down very easy. Lots of malt character but not as sweet, thankfully, as I thought it might be. Good hops presence to make for an extraordinarily well-balanced-for-having-a-high-alcohol-content beer. The alcohol is very prominient, however, but mellows with age.

this was highly anticipated have been most stone brews i have sampled and, while this was still good, it was a little less than expected. this is a very big beer. nice ruby colors. the aroma is of candy. full bodied. lots of stuff going on, and actually some of it clashed on my palate. became alcoholic tasting as it warmed. solid brew, great packaging, better than single bastard i would say, although differentm, but not really that great a benchmark for american strong category.

Must say I was slightly disappointed. Deep mahogany pour with red highlights. Nose was quite complex, like a barleywine crossed with Celebrator. Cooked vegetables, candied yams, molasses. Taste was much the same, with a big hop character in the middle and a Dry bitter finish. Okay, but overrated?

well worth the kudos. It is a great beer. The aroma is sweet and faint. Thin head, but still a great pour. Dark amber and cloudd in appearance. The taste is the amazing part, though. It is four flavors attacking you at the same time. Ends with the best bitter taste Ive experienced. Great beer!!!
