UPDATED: SEP 22, 2007 Bought and drank the 3 liter version of this beer with a friend and had a really great evening. Very strong but goes down very easy. Lots of malt character but not as sweet, thankfully, as I thought it might be. Good hops presence to make for an extraordinarily well-balanced-for-having-a-high-alcohol-content beer. The alcohol is very prominient, however, but mellows with age. SkyinBrian (430) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 10, 2005
this was highly anticipated have been most stone brews i have sampled and, while this was still good, it was a little less than expected. this is a very big beer. nice ruby colors. the aroma is of candy. full bodied. lots of stuff going on, and actually some of it clashed on my palate. became alcoholic tasting as it warmed. solid brew, great packaging, better than single bastard i would say, although differentm, but not really that great a benchmark for american strong category. Must say I was slightly disappointed. Deep mahogany pour with red highlights. Nose was quite complex, like a barleywine crossed with Celebrator. Cooked vegetables, candied yams, molasses. Taste was much the same, with a big hop character in the middle and a Dry bitter finish. Okay, but overrated? paul9639 (116) - New Hampshire, USA - APR 8, 2005
well worth the kudos. It is a great beer. The aroma is sweet and faint. Thin head, but still a great pour. Dark amber and cloudd in appearance. The taste is the amazing part, though. It is four flavors attacking you at the same time. Ends with the best bitter taste I’ve experienced. Great beer!!! SayNoToCoors (65) - Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA - APR 8, 2005
Wow! what a nice big delicious beer! This one is similar to Arrogant Bastard in many ways. It’s nice and dark, the colors are similar and the flavors share a lot of the same characteristics, but this one actually seems a tad bit mellower to me (had it in 2004) Very good brew, I wish it was avail year-round.

Bottle. Red-brown colour with a big baige head. Sweet fruity raisin aroma and a light sweet bitter taste, some hops. Medium to full body and a bitter light warming alcoholic finish. More please !!! green (186) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 4, 2005
Cellar Temp. Aroma is cinnamon and cherries. Thick full, complex flavor. Big punch of alcohol swampl;s everthing in the finish, but no burn. Nice. jimhilt (2610) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - APR 3, 2005
Pours a one-finger cream head that goes quickly and leaves no lace. Clear, red/amber color. Strong carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is malts, raisin and alcohol, starts with a distinct alcohol flavor some sweetness, finishes sweet & sour. 22oz bottle for $5.95 from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. drunkmonk (13) - hillborough, North Carolina, USA - APR 3, 2005
750ml. dark brown syrup appearence. nice tan head. very strong malt aroma, with sweetness. heavy malt and alcohol upfront, with minimal hops in finish. nice warming affect after 4-5 sips. a bit sweet to me this time..I will definitely revisit this one again. The aroma and flavor were both full of soury dark fermented fruit, caramel, flowers, and a hint of wood on the nose. The beer poured a brownish red color w/ thin head and medium lacing. The mouthfeel was a light to medium body w/ a creamy smoothness.
