This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. Course theres always the masochists...

My favorite beer. Obviously you cant sit with your buddies and pound it all day long at 11.2%. With this beer, you sit with a couple of buddies, crack open a growler and enjoy it for the taste, aroma, etc. I does have a bitter, long aftertaste, which I like.

As Ive said before, one Bastards plenty enough for me. And while I do appreciate a few of the Double Bastard variations Ive come across, I dont have much love for the original DB. Just such a wildly aggressive beer, super sweet, monstrously bitter, boozy as all hell, an assault on the palate Im not that happy to undertake again. (In fact, not sure why Ive ended up with another bottle o Double Bastard, having sworn it off at least twice before. Fuck it. Ill just blame Trump.) Anyway, the pours decent, the nose warns you of the massive malt-hop avalanche to come, but nothing really prepares you for that one-two punch of sweet toffee-caramel mixed with pure pinecone resin hops. Deep dark veins of brown sugar, maybe even a hint of white chocolate, followed by a little dried apricot, then on to the sweet, boozy, IBU-packed finish. I get why people dig this beer. I also understand why I dont. Never trust a Bastard that comes in pairs.

650ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a deep reddish-amber colour with one finger of head. Aromas of caramel and dark cherries. Taste matches the aroma with a IPA style dry and hoppy finish. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. High alcohol level is concealed well. Interesting brew. Recommended.

It pours murky ruby with crimson tinges; the head is tan and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: grapefruit pith, fresh cut grass, pine resin, celery, toffee, alcohol, pepper, and licorice. The taste is lightly sweet that finishes fucking bitter. The palate is full bodied, and slightly sticky; the carbonation is medium; the finish is long and bitter. Overall, this beer is pretty dang American - insert edgy political humour.

Bottled 10/12/16. Pours hazy, dark brown with a thick, fluffy beige head. Tons of fruits in the aroma (dates, figs, tangerines, & plums); some floral hops in the mix as well. Flavors arrive similarly with dark fruits leading; caramel & hops following behind. Actually finishes with an peppery, chalky bitterness along with booze. And that finish is the part where it falls off. Its got that medicinal (Theraflu) bitterness. Aftertaste is harsh & uninviting, much like Arrogant Bastard. Warms up with less bitterness but also becomes much more astringent & solvent-like with booze. It aint a drain pour but certainly not the best in its price range either.

Bomber. Delicious malty, hoppy aroma. Beautiful copper color, white head that lingers for a while. Little lacing, but understandable given alcohol content. Smooth hop flavor. Bitter aftertaste but pleasant. Full bodied. Overall a delicious beer, but strong.
