COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Clusters were the dominant hop in the US brewing industry literally for centuries, and the forerunner of many of our modern Northwest varieties. They have a unique aroma with quite a bit of citrus and a heft of herbal goodness. Clusterf#ck features Clusters in the kettle, in the hop back, and especially in the fermenter for dry-hopping. Pilsner and honey malt form the baseline. This year’s version is a bit stronger and hoppier than last year’s... cheers to that!

Single hops IPAs can be hit or miss. This one mostly hits though a few weak spots set it back. However if you aren’t chasing the latest and greatest hop varietal for that "Extreme Bitter Experience" then it manages to get the job done as well as any other beer made with Cluster hops.

Aroma / Appearance - A hazy lemon body supports fresh white head. Floral notes accented by pine and citrus demonstrate that you do not always need to be super complex to be enjoyable.

Flavor / Palate - Lemon pledge and resin gathered from a weeping cut in a tree blend bitterness with malts. The overall impression might not provide the "wow factor" that some people expect in their beer but it gets the job done. The only thing that keeps me preferring Killer Red is that I prefer lower ABV beers if there will not be a huge hop bill. Keep that in mind and you might enjoy this experiment.

500 ml bottle- Pours hazy straw golden with a nice white head. Aroma is floral, fruity, citrus, ale, pine resin, lemon. The taste is very lemony, pine resin, sticky and refreshing. Bubbly mouthfeel, medium body. Interesting IPA, enjoyed it.

500 mL bottle poured. Pours a cloudy golden color with an oily patch head. Hop forward aroma. Flavor comes off as bitter. Flavor is grassy, and hoppy, with a bitter finish. On the dry side for me. Not bad but an overall forgettable IPA.

500 ml bottle bought from Lifesource Natural Grocer in Salem OR $4.99 Pours a pale orangey colour with a large rocky/frothy off white head. Not getting a whole lot of hop aroma..some honey some slight pepper and spice.Lot of caramel malt. Taste is very earthy..semi bitter, some honey again and a touch of white pepper in the end. Palate is OK for style nothing great..almost cloying in the end. ’Not a great beer..found it quite dull..note to self.do not buy any more cluster hop beers.

Golden color with a frothy white head out of the bottle. Very little nose with some honey sweetness and a floral hint. Bready malts with some honey and cracker with a bit of lemon and bitter orange citrus rind notes. I would not have pegged this as an IPA. Long bitter finish. Not what I look for in an IPA.

pretty lame hop variety. I can see why we’ve moved on. This was lacking in so many ways.

Bottled 05.20.15. 6 srm, non-filtered, Bright dark yellow, orangish hue. Big skunky, herbal aroma, thought my room mate was smoking 420. Smell of opening a box of fresh new Nike shoes. Reminiscent of a mix between Victory Pils and Great Divide DPA. Rich honey malt sweetness w/o being cloying. Perfume, floral. IPA? Not sure, but very delicious. More like an American style Pilsner.

After drinking some big beers earlier, this comes off kind of bland. Pretty smooth though, creamy texture, silky head, mellow aroma. Taste is subdued for an IPA, malt and hops identifiable in the mix. Good, but kind of weak.

A.K.A. Clusterfuck I.P.A.. It’s an average single-hop beer that benefits from having a higher alcohol count.

Sampled at the brewpub. Clear golden. White foam. Gentle and subtle floral and fruit. Fairly big bitterness considering the subtleness of flavors. Light spiciness. Nice.
