COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The IRA, as its known around here, marries a ruby red color and rich body with the hop flavors of an IPA. Our unique ale yeast strain adds a delicious layer of complexity. One of the first beers we made, and an enduring favorite. Brewed with Gambrinus Organic Pilsner malt, imported crystal malt, Simcoe and Brewers Gold hops. 6.5% ABV, 60 BU

Very similar to Ninkasi's Believer Double Red (although a little less malty) this beer features some nice toasty malt with a hop profile similar to an ipa. A great hybrid style that keeps things interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Hop City. The yeast gave it a banana and clove finish that I want expecting, nice malt body.

Pours dark amber, slightly hazy with a nice off-white head. The aroma is caramel, malanoidin malts, some tropical fruit, ripe apple and pear. The taste is sweet, lots of caramel, hard candy. The bitterness is moderate, grassy and piney, long-lasting. The beers ok, I guess, but way too hard candy sweet for my taste and the bitterness doesnt balance out the sweetness in a very pleasant way.

Appearance: slightly hazy medium amber with two fingers of rocky ivory head diminishing quickly to a thin skim, moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: caramel, pithy grapefruit and orange peel, cedar, tropical fruit. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Medium slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, off-dry medium duration slightly spicy finish. (3/5) A little elderly, perhaps, but the slightly higher ABV seems to have provided some measure of protection. The intention here is pretty clear: marry the characteristics of sweet malty red ales with those of IPAs. The execution is slightly less clear. Although bitter and sweet are not necessarily antagonistic, they can be tough to balance - one or the other seems to always win out. In this case, malt is clearly dominant. On the plus side, the SImcoe hops dont taste skunk or catty, so theres that. (14/20)

500 ml bottle purchased and consumed near th brewery in Oregon. 65 IBU A fine looking ale with a brilliant copper colored body and beige head. Malty and hoppy aroma precedes a solidly hoppy flavor with a faint malt in the background. Medium body, carbonation and (for an IPA) bitterness.
