Pours a murky darker brown with a huge ,attractive creamy tan head.
Caramel,plums,banana,clove and touch of Halls mentholyptus in the aroma.
Taste is much richer chocolate cake soaked in rum and dark fruits,some clove and banana in the back..nice stuff.
Nice mouth feel, thick yet smooth and with a long after taste..slight alcohol but its fine.
Very nice dubbel here.
April 3rd, 2014 - Belching Beaver, packed with trivia contestants, had no room for a poor soul like me who just wanted to study in the company of a beer. So, I moved to Tiger! Tiger!, where I purchased a pint of the Sacre Bleu! Exclamation marks all around, it seems. The color is murky and muddied, like a hot cocoa mix in water, though the bar’s dim lighting don’t help much when trying to get a read on subtle color differences. The aroma leads with a touch of pine and raisins, followed by cocoa powder, a blob of raspberry jam, and even a bit of cinnamon. The spiciness builds on itself with nutmeg showing up in the mid-taste, shifting the brew’s flavor from sweet to dry and spicy, giving this a very different character than most dubbels who err on the sugary side. Each sip begins with a mild welling of carbonation, which soon collapses, leaving a heavier, oilier brew behind, though not a flat mouthfeel by any means. The extra breathing room and quiet reveal mild notes of cocoa and almond, subtly sweet, and ending with some dark chocolate bitterness in the aftertaste. Successive sips reveal a mild, dusty taste with touches of cloves, and the notable absence of dark fruits (fig, raisin, etc.) Overall, a fine beer, and for tonight, I am glad it isn’t sugary sweet. 500 ml. bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar. Pours dark brown with a slight white head that leaves thin lacing. Aroma of chocolate, plum, fig, clove, brown sugar, and banana. Has a dry feeling on the tongue with caramel, dark fruits, and a snappy bitterness at the tail end. Very good version of a Belgian Dubbel, well rounded flavor and mouthfeel, refreshing and not too rich with the right amount of spiciness, would repeat. Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours dark ruddy/orange/amber (against strong light) with a transient beige head. Aroma is malty, reminding of cola. Med +body. Flavor is malty, but hard to define hop seems to be keeping it rather dry. Think I’m getting Belgian yeast/esters. Indeed. Maybe this stuff is reminding me of Orval? It’s getting better and better. Just read the label. This may have been done with Chimay yeast! Suddenly I like it even more. :)

500 ml Bottle. Dark reddish brown pour topped with a sudsy layer of tan foam. Mild aroma of caramel malt, banana, dark sugars and clove. Taste is a blend of toffee, raisin and fig along with some toasted grain and dessert spice toward the end. The body is moderately thick and creamy with strong carbonation and a malty, spiced finish. 500ml bottle from CANBIF 2014. Dark and somewhat hazy mahogany with a tannish head. Mild Belgian yeast with some pitted fruit, balanced sweetness, reminds me of the Unibroue yeast a bit but a notch down on the intensity. High carbonation, moderate body, some sweetness, yeasty, becomes dry, little thin on the finish and a touch of cardboard. Bottle:   Deep brown, tannish head and lacing.   A soft dark pitted fruit aroma.   A little musty, even Belgian like, enough to make me think it wasn’t produced state-side.   Not as flavorful on the tongue, its there but a bit softer.   Does have a fruity sweetness that seems like candied plums.   Not a heavy Dubbel, not too bright, but smooth.     Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes with a little popsicle like sweetness.   Doesn’t seem to have that heavy or rich feeling of a Dubbel.   Has a bit more fruitiness to it, perhaps in that artificial popsicle like flavor.   Tiz okay, for a minute there it seemed Belgian but towards the finish it kinda got a bit artificial. fiulijn (20938) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 1, 2014

Brown color, with compact head. Light caramel aroma, some esters, cola. Overly carbonated; off dry mouthfeel; strong dark caramel flavor, but it gets too roasty and too dusty; fairly strong bitterness with dusty final too.
Confused, not exciting.
Pours a thin head on a black body.
The aroma is dark fruit, mostly plum and blackberry.
The taste is also plum with some mild pine bitterness.
The texture is softer with moderate carbonation.
It’s an enjoyable drink, though it’s missing the complexity to take it to the next level.
