COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As from batch 4, Februari 2013, this beer is being brewed at Gulden Spoor, no longer at Maenhout. This is also printed on the wrapper.

Qantelaar is the first beer of brewery "d’Oude Maalderij". 4 guys with a passion for craft beer founded the brewery in 2011.

Since then, we try to design and improve our recipes in order to create artisanal Belgian craft beers. The "Qantelaar" is created with 5 malts, a bit of candy sugar, 2 hops and ferments in the bottle. We use 30% more ingrediënts than a regular brown beer which gives it a great body and taste. We don’t add any herb, spice or chemical compound in the traditional Belgian brown strong beer.

Try to get a hold of it and enjoy the taste of what a good craft beer should taste like.

Dare to taste, learn to enjoy!

10/12/2017 @home - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte.
Black colour with big rocky tanned head, leaving a nice lacing. Nose is dark malts, roast, some caramel, Taste is dark malts, roast, bit ashy, bit nutty, hint of vanilla, caramel, bit dry giving a wine touch. Nice. Should drink it more.

Small bottle, 330ml. Medium-brown with a fizzy beige head, like Coke almost. Plenty of yeast residue in the bottle. Nutty and malty aroma. Palate is a bit sharp, again reminding of a soda more than a beer. Taste is rather dry and malty initially and then fnishes on the sweetish side. Alcohol is not prominent in this beer.

75 cl bottle bought al La Birroteca, Alcalá de Henares, Spain; served in Leffe chalice. To begin with, a statement: it surprises me a bit to find a quadrupel that is only 8%, but then again, what do I know. It pours very dark brown with some hazel-hued blazings and a thick tan head that diminishes quickly but has a last mm with very good retention. Aroma is quite mild for an abt, but nice: cocoa, cherry, vanilla, candied sugar, cola pop, leather, cigar box. Taste begins quite sweetish, then very fresh sour and some metallic tinges. No bitterness, not very long-lasting. Creamy and soft. OK, all in all, even though it’s a little pricey.

Bottle from Deconinck, Vichte - BE. Color: deep dark black beer with red ruby reflection, no carbonation and high brown foam which it disappears. Also gushing! Smell: sour red fruits, red wine barrel notes. Quiet good nose. Taste: strong sourness, with red fruits sourness and oak notes. Oxydation. Very hard to drink. There is a bottling problem or oxydation issue. Bad taste. Aftertaste: I should stop the damage on my description...
