An early German ale, this full-bodied Düsseldorf style exhibits a rich mahogany color. Special malts imported from Munich lend an authentic malty note to this exceptional brew.

Draft at the brewpub. I was pleasantly surprised to first see this even an option as many American breweries demur from traditional continental styles these days. And then this is actually a pretty decent representation of the altbiers I grew up on in Germany. Solid amber, good authentic malty swirl and evenly balanced. Solid. (#6617, 5/17/2017)

JStax (7132) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - NOV 8, 2015
Draft sample at the source. The beer is a clear amber color with a beige head of foam. The aroma has caramel and a bit of tin and shampoo character. The taste has some nice sweetness, but the chemical nuances are distracting. Medium body and lower carbonation.

4oz on tap at the brewpub. Toasty malt, kind of fruity up front, some raisin. Sort of spicy. Moderate bitter taste, lighter sweet. Clear red orange color. Thin white head, leaving good webs of lace. Medium body. Kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Light slick. Solid brewpub ESB. Mild astringency in the finish.
