Off-red in color with a fluffy, long-lasting head and full aromas of fruit, bubblegum and spice. The caramel backbone of the malty body provides the deception of fullness, however, the finish is dry. The delicate citrus and distinctive bitterness intertwine with the warmth of alcohol and deep rum tones, finishing with a hint of cocoa. Simon Girty becomes more intense at room temperature and may be cellared for up to five years. A very different beer for those brave enough to try. Simon Girty....the person: One of the most pivotal and controversial figures in American history, Simon Girty, primarily through savage guerilla warfare, fought for what he believed to be right. He was noted as a “turncoat” and most often referred to as the “White Savage”. His bravery, courage and reputation, made him a common household name throughout the colonial period. Girty’s Run, which is a tributary of the Allegheny River, was named after Simon. The stream travels directly through the heart of Millvale and was once his passage way to the north. In honor and as a sign of respect, we have developed this beer for the free spirited individuals like Simon. We hope this minor tribute is enough to show our respect...Enjoy!

500 ml bottle from shop in Harrisburg. Deep brown red color with a slightly sour nose and some sour notes as well as a bit of orange. Nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed amber with a medium sized white head. Soft cocoa, orange, citrus, a touch of vanilla. Medium bodied, soft cocoa, a bit of tartness, musky and funky, orange and vibrant touches of citrus and orange acidity. Tangy cocoa and a touch of orange juice acidity into the finish. Very pretty.

Medium brown with a fizzy and foamy tan head. Tart and sour, cherry fruitiness, earthy. Underneath is a caramel malty sweetness, a bit of roast cocoa. Long finish. Unique.

At the brewery: pours murky light brown with a beige head and it dissipates kind of fast. Aroma is a tad funky, plenty of dark fruitz. Taste is a tad sweet, a bit bit sour. Body is not too heavy. Not my favourite of the Draai Laags.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2016 Draft at Bru Craft. Murky chestnut brown pour with a small amount of fizzy tan foam. Hodgepodge of flavors. Sharp balsamic sour up front with chalky cocoa in the finish. Sorta works. Notes of tangerine, black cherry, honeycomb, tobacco, nutmeg and earth. Juicy and unusual.

RBSG 2016, on tap @ the brewery. Muddy brown. Overripe fruit, acetic sourness (mild/moderate), earthy, dirty undertones, bready too. Muddled and confused.

a plum colored beer with a bit of cloudiness. vinegar aroma, faint but there, not much else throwing off from aroma. Tastes like cold brew, a lot of chocolate as the beer leaves the palette with some dark fruits. maybe even a bit of cinnamon. Very interesting. not sure I could drink a lot.

Draft - Dirty earthy notes and cocoa. Dirty brown with a small white head. Light up front tartness and soured earthy. It’s not pleasant to me.

ttutony (968) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 16, 2016
Medium brown. Aroma of chocolate and a bit of yeast funk. Interesting combo of toasted malt, chocolate, sourness. Complex and interesting tor sure.
