3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Dragonmead Brewpub. Brown with amber lowlights and a creamy tan head. Aroma of pine and resinous hops with fainter dark malts, caramel and mild cat pee. Taste of darker malt mixed with pine needles, light chocolate and a touch of alcohol. Moderate bitterness, not bad.
Majority of 6 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom in Warren, Michigan. Consumed on 9-26-16. Dark brown with a moderate amount of long-lasting, taupe head. Nice, piney, basil, herbal, earthy, soil smell. Unusual smell in a way that is, paradoxically, not unusual among black IPAs. Tasty, piney bitterness in flavor. A bubblegum or watermelon flavor effect, to my surprise. Frothy in the palate. Medium body. Forgettable palate effects. Overall, a good but not great black IPA. flatmatt (1593) - Northville, Michigan, USA - MAR 5, 2016
On tap at Dragonmead. Deep brown pour with an off-white head. Chocolate and pine hop aroma. Pine hop and roasty cocoa and coffee. A good black IPA here. Ferris (16066) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 12, 2014
Draft - Light roast malts and a light perfumy hop profile. Jet black with a nice brown head. Roasty malts and a very light hop notes. Not nearly as hoppy as hoped. hopdog (12816) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 5, 2014
On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Poured a dark brown with amber edges and a small sized off white head. Floral, lighter roast, pine, and lighter chocolate. firstsip (733) - Michigan, USA - SEP 14, 2013
On tap with both CO2 and cask... first time I’d say I preferred CO2! With CO2, long lasting, thick white head. Dark. Mild aroma. Slight bitter hops with sn emphasis on bitter malt. Edges closer to a porter than a black IPA.
