Sample at the brewpub. This brew is a brownish-black color with a medium light beige head that burns away quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roasted malt, chocolate and a bit of hops. Medium body with a roasty character and notes of earth, chocolate and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall. hopdog (12341) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2009
On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Interesting name! Poured a medium brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate and earthiness. Tastes of chocolate, earthy, and lighter coffee in the finish. Sammy (12099) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 1, 2007
They say an English style stout, at the brewpub and popular so it is frequent on cask. Black with mocha small head but lots of lace. Strong carbonation, drinkable and concentrated flavour, above average mouthfeek. Some roast, chocolate malt. Not what you expect.

Draft… RBSG 2010… Pours clear and black (crimson is revealed when held up to light) with a small, creamy, khaki head. Excellent retention. The nose is a meshing of coffee and chocolate with a whisper of vanilla. Full-bodied and silky with soothing carbonation. Sweet dark chocolate/chocolate crème flavor with a splash of espresso. Finishes sweet and roasty. Ibrew2or3 (8607) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JUN 8, 2008
Growler brought down to FL by my sister. Pours deep dark blackness with nice mocha head. Nice looking brew. The growler gave it a whiff of oxidation to start off the nose with. The bulk of it is toffee, burnt malts, dark roastiness, some vague dark fruitiness somewhere in the background and a hint of coco. The taste is much the same with roastiness, sweet toffee, burnt malts approaching ashy to go along with an underscore of faint oxidation. The mix of roasty malts, toffee and seemingly some oatmeal twang creates on interesting note that closes in on mild sourness. Enjoyable product with delicious creamy mouthfeel.

Sample at Dragonmead on 7/23/11. Black pour with a very minimal head. Roasty nose with some apple notes, but overall very muted, even when warmed. Roasty malt and apple flavor with a bitter roasty finish. HogTownHarry (6622) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JUL 25, 2006
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2006 Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Opaque bubbly ruby-brown with a small creamy-fizzy beige head. Aroma of sweet roast malt, a bit of cola, vague hoppiness. Weak taste, nutty and bitter, gets more bitter in the finish. Weak body, watery and lightly astringent, decent carbonation - overall a little weak, one of the poorer stouts at the festival. Michigan BGF 06 Day 2: Deep brown and little head. The aroma is chocolate and slightly nutty, lactic sourness, some smoke and coffee. The taste is watery grains and malt with coffee background. Not as much mocha as expected. Really not very good at all, maybe it was off? Pailhead (6539) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - NOV 10, 2004
On tap: Aroma is mostly black coffee. Very slight chocolate. Dark brown, virtually black. Flavor is all coffee. No malt. Coffee all the way thru with an intensified black coffee bitterness in the finish. thedm (6146) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAY 14, 2004
This draft brew from the brewery poured a large sized head of finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was uncarbonated opaque and dark ruby red brown in color. The aroma was that of medium strength dark malts and molasses. The mouth feel was tingly yet smooth with a malty palate. The flavor contained notes of dark malts, molasses and was somewhat sweet.
