Pours a nice amber gold with WAY too thick white head, bartender said that this batch was way overcarbonated and has been a problem. Aroma strong of mostly malt, caramel, and sweetness. Flavor is really no surprise compared to the aroma with the addition of some light spices. Pretty good, but I am just not a barley wine fan I guess.
From notes. Had this on tap at the 2016 MGB Summer Beer Fest. The pour is a dirty amber gold color with a decently thick white head that falls to a dense cap, leaving a pretty good lace. The aroma is interesting. It’s got a Belgian yeasty thing happening, and I’m not okay with this. There is a lot of booze and a huge hop presence. There is a light fruitiness to it, but it’s almost got a tart bite to it. I’m not really sure what to make of it. The flavor is a little more bracing. There is almost a traditional wine thing happening that needs to be addressed. I’m not okay with it. The mouth feel is thin and light with a bright carbonation and a really bitter, bordering sour, fruitiness that just doesn’t belong. This one needs help. Sample at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy amber-gold color with a thick and frothy white head that evaporates slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of malt and ripe fruits. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, citrus, and a touch of grassy hops in the background. The finish is fruity and slightly boozy. On tap at Dragonmead 3-13-09. Poured cloudy amber some lacing. Smelled of thick malt, some alcohol, and fruity. Tasted very sweet, some light fruit, like apple and grape, some dark fruit, like prune, cherry, fermented berry, and raisin. Decent alcohol presence. On tap at the Dragonmead Brew Pub. Poured a medium and cloudy golden color with a very larged sized, frothy white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus, floral, and herbal. Draft... Clear, deep amber ale with a huge, off-white head. Terrific retention. Nose of toffee, fuzzy fruit and pine. Earthy, sweet flavor. Nicely bittered, but the hops don’t cut too deeply into the malt. Full-bodied and syrupy with subtle carbonation. Sweet, boozy finish. Dries out at the wee end.
