3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2015 Tap: Very black color, completely opaque with a fuzzy, dark-khaki colored head. Aroma consists of roasted malts with maybe a touch of smoked malt, too; oats and grains abound, along with a hint of woodiness and a slight mocha-java vibe. The taste has a good dose of roasted malts with a burnt and slightly smokey profile. Dark coffee beans, bitter chocolate, and heavy, heavy oats. The oat flavor is explosive. Dry, rustic oats coat the palate, also giving plenty of almost wheaty, grainy flavor. No much hoppage; bitterness comes from the roast. Very creamy, nice carbonation.
Taps opaque dark chocolate with a nice tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma delivers roast malt, oatmeal, coffee and subtle chocolate notes. Flavor offers quality coffee, roast malt, oatmeal, molasses and chocolate for a very drinkable stout. Mouthfeel features good body and fair fizz. Revere it. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JAN 18, 2015
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa powder, dark fruit, hints of chocolate, coffee, some nice lactose into a bit of earthy spice. Taste is a mix of cocoa powder, roast, coffee, some lactose into a bit of oaty, grainy notes, touch of yeast, finishing bitter, dry. Nice. koleminer20 (3976) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - OCT 22, 2014
From notes. Finally getting around to adding beers from the Ypsi Summer Beerfest! Enjoyed on July 25. The pour is a nice light black with a decent dark khaki head ans some light lacing as it recedes. The aroma is heavy on the roasted malt. There is a nice chocolate bit and it’s definitely got some good oat qualities. The flavor is much of the same. Much more oaty than I was expecting. The roast on it is really good. I love the bitter chocolate, but this is definitely an oatmeal stout. The mouth feel is very creamy with a nice carbonation and a lingeringly dry roasty aftertaste. Definitely a solid brew. Alextricity (509) - Michigan, USA - APR 17, 2014
Had on-tap at Dragonmead.
Appearance: Well, what is there to say? Thick, creamy-as-hell tan head that stays on top of the beer. Thick wall of lacing. One of the best beers I’ve had, visually. Dat nitro-tap!
Smell: Hm. Yeah, that’s nice. Light, but pleasant. Coffee and toffee/caramel sort of aromas are there though. What’s there is really good.
Taste/feel: Taste is much like the smell. Coffee, toffee/caramel. Basic. Light. Easy drinking. The obvious comparison is Founders’ Oatmeal Stout. That’s a better beer, but not by too much. Simply put, that beer just has a bit more flavor. The look and feel of this one though are excellent.
A well-made Oatmeal Stout. I’d like some more flavor, but what IS in here is tasty. I’d have it again for sure. Petkus331 (389) - Redford, Michigan, USA - JAN 11, 2014
On nitrogen. A nice roast malt and cigar tobacco aroma. Appearance is nearly black dark brown with a thick and creamy milk chocolate head with thick, opulant curtains. Taste is roast malt, bitter leather, and sweet tobacco. palate is spot on for a stout, creamy, thick, not syrupy or fizzy, a rare perfect palate. Overall, an amazing stout when on nitro, don’t miss this!

Nitro at brewery. Beautiful pour of dark black with great, lingering tan head. Mild aroma of burnt malt. Very creamy mouthfeel of charred malt, mild coffee, tobacco, light smoke. I don’t generally like DM’s stouts, but this is super solid. ICEatALAMO (1353) - Troy, Michigan, USA - AUG 19, 2012
Draft at brewery, nitro. Aroma is mostly malt. Taste is smooth as most nitros are. The taste is kinda bland though. A little disappointed a I was looking forward to it.

Draft. Poured dark brown color with medium brown creamy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium roasted flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours flat black with a medium creamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Light to medium body with a roasty character and flavors of malt, coffee and dark chocolate. The finish is sweet with a toasted malt aftertaste, Decent overall.
