Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Murky appearance. Sweet prune aroma. Sweet. Treacle. More old bruin than esb. arminjewell (9689) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - SEP 19, 2015
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, very hazy dark red pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of tart berry, cherry, caramel, toffee, some nuts, hints of earth, spice, yeast. Taste was tart cherry, berry, some earth, spice, slight grass, bread, toast, plum, finishing fairly sweet, slightly tart. AcctError309270 (105) - Michigan, USA - AUG 29, 2014
Bottle. Cloudy reddish brown in color. Crazy amount of carbonation, so the glass was all tan head. Smells of yeast and fruit, with a hint of acid and vinegar. After the head goes down, it has moderate carbonation and a thin, watery body. Sweet and tart, plum-like flavor, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Okay, but I hoping for more. On cask. Aroma of mild tobacco, leather, and a touch of fermenting crab apples. Appears a hazy orange-brown with thick off white foam and beautiful lace. Palate is filling, creamy, soft. Overall, very good! tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - JAN 9, 2014
Tap: metallic copper-y body with a solid brown overlay, mostly cloudy & topped with a light beige layer of foam that lasts for only a few moments. Aroma is pretty mild with notes of spicy hops, faint toffee, nuts, some polished wood, & an apparent mustiness. Taste is a little strange... Has the base of a brown ale with malty notes of caramel, nuts, toffee, & slight cocoa powder, but there’s a musty, almost wet cardboard note throughout. Not oxidation... just... cardboard-y in a very surreal way. Some zesty & lightly bitter hoppage throughout. The off-flavor was distracting. I’d like to try this again to see if that was just a fluke or what.

On cask at the brewpub. Rather light mouthfeel and hop flavour. unfiltered, light brown and lacy. OK drinkability. firstsip (733) - Michigan, USA - SEP 14, 2013
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2014 Just barely an ESB in terms of bitter, but good. Golden color. Unremarkable nose. Balanced and light.
Update on cask: beautiful beer. Great gradient and head. Very rich. Pretty malty, oatmeal. Still not much bitterness. rumproasts (5478) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUN 24, 2013
bottle. Amber with small head. Fairly average ESB style, which is to say that it’s much better than the other Dragonmead brews I’ve had. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Chill hazed amber with a very large creamy slowly faded head. Aroma of grains, malt and toffee. Taste of mild fruit, caramel malt and mild pepper. Fizzy with a hint of bitterness. superspak (5790) - Michigan, USA - DEC 19, 2012
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Loud crack upon opening yields insanely high carbonation into the glass, this took a while to pour. Pours hazy dark reddish copper color with a huge 2 finger fluffy off white head with insane retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass, with a ton of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, raisin, toffee, toast, bread, floral, and herbal hops. Pretty nice aromas with solid strength and balance. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, bread, light pine, floral, herbal, and earthy spiciness. Decent amount of earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, raisin, toffee, bread, light pine, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a short bit. Solid balance of flavors and fairly robust feeling for 4.8%; zero cloying flavors on the finish. Quite dry on the finish as expected from the high carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a lightly creamy and very crisp mouthfeel that is ok. I swirled a lot of the carbonation out of this one on purpose. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid ESB. This was probably infected, but the taste didn’t seem to be affected that badly. In the end it was pretty tasty, I had no problems finishing the glass.
