Tap at Dragonmead. Deep amber pour. No real aroma at all. Soft and a little bit fruity. Lightly sweet malt with a touch of caramel and toffee but the hoppiness is quite light and subdued. Lightly plummy but it’s quite watery. Not a whole lot of character in here really. Bottle. Pours a slightly hazed deep tea color of brown and red. Zero head to speak of. Slightly malty smell but other than that not a whole lot going on. Very clean aroma. The taste is slightly matly with a nice hops taste at the end that lingers. Overall a very clean semi full bodied esb that is decent. Has a nice, fruity, slightly malty aroma that is not strong but invites a taste. It pours an attractive clear mahogany with a thick and fairly persistent white head. Flavor is malty and a little fruity with a little hop bitterness and a cider-like undertone. Texture is lively and quite fizzy, leaving behind a nice tingle and a hoppy, woody finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy brown with a small white head. Aroma of light fruits, caramel malt, and bready, sweet malt. Flavor of sweet fruits, jam, nutty malt, and toasted malt. Palate is a little weak, almost juice-like. Rather sweet by the end of the glass. This one was ok.

Draft 1/2 pint at the brewpub. This medium reddish brew doesn’t thrown much of an aroma at all that I can discern. My first impression of the beer is of a dirty soapy dishrag. 12oz bottle thanks to Kevin for bringing these back from Michigan. Pours a clear light brown. Small white head. Very similar to the hemp ale in flavor. Deep bread notes, doughy and yeasty with a slight bit of citrus form the hops. Nice body for a beer under 5% with a slightly spicy quality and big giant bread notes all throughout. Finishes with light bitterness and a bit of caramel. The choice of Galena hops is inspired and really gives a neat bit of hop dimension to this solidly made ESB. Well done.
