Silver Medal winner for Imperial India Pale Ale, Great American Beer Festival 2009. Besides Jolly Roger, this is probably Drake’s most renowned beer. An Imperial (or Double) IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault. Denogginizer is also Drake’s most powerful regular offering, at a whopping 10% alcohol by volume!

Egads, had this whopper on draft at The Red Room in Santa Cruz (great beer, kinda cool lounge atmosphere, disappointing food-- but this is a beer rating, so onward...). Pours auburn with half-inch off-white fading head. Floral and piney juiciness dominate aroma as well as the nose. The Mouthfeel is more lean than medium and there’s a plushness I surmise comes from the hops. The touch of caramel (or more like peanut brittle without the peanut: carmelized sugar) sweetness brings out the delicious alcohol notes that continue on into the finish. There’s a resurgence of hop flavors: apricot/citrus and mint/chives. Mighty one.

Bottled 355ml (Beer Republic, no date)
Deep clear amber color, small steady off-white head. Caramel, riped fruits and some alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied. Fruity and a bit alcoholic with light hop oilyness. Strong and mellow but lacks real hop kick, maybe not so fresh.

Pour is a hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma Is a ok fruity hop with a little honeysuckle and caramel malt. Flavor is hoppy but way more malt heavy. It’s not a sweet malt but more of a dry heavy malt. This is not hoppy enough for me to be considered a double IPA. No alcohol is felt but again not much of a hop presence. One of this beers that 10 years ago would have been world class but palates change and some of the newer DIPA’s blow this out of the water as far as fruity hops.

A good strong brew on tap near The house. Flavor was strong but went down smooth.

Draft. During my bachelor party long weekend in the san francisco area, second stop Drake’s Dealership. Golden pour with light head. Herbal, grassy, citrus and earthy hop notes, a touch of sweetness and booze.

Hazy dark golden color with off-white head. Aroma has a really interesting hop profile with grapes and also some juicy orchard fruits with a hint of watermelon. Taste follows with the watermelon and grapes plus some orange. Medium to intense bitterness throughout. Medium body, quite smooth on the palate. I really enjoyed this one. It has a very different hop profile from other IPAs.

33 cl. bottle. A clear amber coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of fruit, hops, malt, citrus, pine and with a bitter finish.

martjoobolut (4387) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 6, 2017
Bottle, bottled 13.12.2016 (from beergium). Pours clear amber with whiteish head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, caramel, candy, alcohol, fruits. Flavor is sweet and bitter, caramel, pine, malt, citrus, some pineapple, pine. Finish is resin bitter and sweet with very prominent alcohol burn. Overall: not really refined, but drinkable, sweet caramelly boozy mess.

anstei (2254) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - FEB 5, 2017
Tap. Pours clear amber. Aroma is mostly tropical fruit, some pines, but really mostly fruity. Body is heavy, sweet and fruity, but rather flat too. Sweet sticky palate. A double IPA for sure and not the worst at it.

Habanero (4680) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK, DENMARK - JAN 23, 2017
Bottled. Pours slightly hazy deep golden with an average of-white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, grapefruit and floral too. Sweet flavor that ends up being more dry and bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice DIPA indeed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Pours a nice copper color from a growler. Aroma is piney, citrus, and lots of hops. Taste is nice balance of malty sweetness and a boat load of hops. Medium body with and nicely bitter finish. This is a nice DIPA.
