Draft. A pale amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, grass, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops lending it notes of spices and grass as well as lighter notes of lemon peal, combined with medium notes of malt, leading to a dry and very bitter finish. Tap at Beer Revolution. Deep amber-red pour with a thin white lace. The nose is really lovely. Sweet slightly fruity malt base - not cloying, but definitely on the rich side. Nice bright fruity hoppiness that cuts the malt without being too aggressive. A little bit chewy and malty, but again, it’s well-balanced. Some chewiness. It’s a damn solid barleywine.

On tap at PP Carlsbad (6/12/09): Pours a transparent bright copper orange with a well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of light caramel maltiness and some light fruity esters. On draft at beer revolution. It pours dark amber with a creamy off white head. The aroma is amazing with lots of dark fruit and hard candy. Caramel, cherry, plums, raisins, toffee. Very potent. The flavor is rich, smooth, and bright with fruit flavors , caramel and toffee. Tastes a bit oxidized with some nuts and sherry, but it adds another great dimension to this beer. Hazy brownish red with a nice beige head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, butterscotch, dark sweet bread, and floral/piney hops. Toffee, caramel, toast, buttered sweet bread, and a floral hoppy bitterness in the finish. Nice drinking at 10%, great balance of malt and hops in a big beer. On tap at pizza port Carlsbad. nicely balanced barley wine. Quite hoppy but lots of caramel malt to back it up. Sweet and bitter with fresh hoppy finish. Citrus, grapefruit, biscuits, caramel, and fruit. Good!
