On tap at Drake’s Barrel House (and listed as ’09 Jack “N” Jolly Barreled in 2009 Jack Daniels) pouring up semi opaque amber with copper hues and tan head. The aroma offers up nice bold yet blunted pine hops, faint cherry hard candy, light musty earthiness and some mild whiskey like notes. The taste has a bold punch of resiny pine hops, roasted malts and sticky sweet malts. These notes are bold and yummy and slowly give ground grudgingly to modest notes of whiskey. Yum! I love the bold pine and then pretty solid barrel notes.
Draft. Caramel/brown sugar colored beerw ith a dark cream colored head. Caramel and whiskey aroma. Caramel and whiskey flavor with toffee. Medium bodied. Caramel and whiskey lingers with toffee. Just nice and simple. BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 29, 2012
On tap. Pours with a hazed brown body with a lasting tan head. Aromas are floral, alcohol, whiskey, orange zest, marmalade and tangerine. Flavors are of orange marmalade, oxidized hops (a flavor I am very sensitive to), bourbon, vanilla and cheesecake (odd). Light bubbles, full bodied, and quite boozy. Taste, and odd. Lots of caramel malt flavors and bourbon, but brought down by the dying, substantial, hop flavors. nimbleprop (8382) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 29, 2012
6oz pour at Toronado. Pours a murky mahogany with one ring of white head. Nose is boozy, a little bit of leather, some wood pulp, sour cherry,a little oxidized. Flavor is really nice, caramel, malty, cookie dough, woody, vanilla, bourbon, sour mash. Full bodied, sticky but smooth finish. Zymurgeist2 (2246) - Redwood City, California, USA - FEB 21, 2011
On tap at Rose and Crown as part of SF Beer week. Pours a deep reddish-brown, almost mohogany. Nice tan head that lingers. Great caramel with some nice vanilla. The bourbon barrel lends a lot of nice, complicated flavor. Mouthfeel has a lot of carbonation, which seems to hide the alcohol. Some dark fruit makes this a little bit like a barleywine. Long mouthfeel. A great beer.

On tap at Beer Revolution. It pours dark reddish brown with a khaki head. The aroma is sweet caramel, toffee, bourbon, and vanilla. The flavor is rich with lots of sweet maple syrup, bourbon, vanilla, plums and a hint of chocolate. The base beer used was pretty hoppy and bitter, but it’s covered over almost completely with the bourbon barrel influence. It verges on cloying with the massive maple syrup flavors, but I still really liked it. It smells and drinks more like a really nice barleywine. I’m glad I had a chance to try it. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - FEB 18, 2011
Sampled on 2/17/2011 on tap at Beer Revolution. This American Strong Ale pours a medium reddish brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head with decent retention. The aroma is fruity, caramel and sweet, wood and bourbon. A medium to full bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet, with a touch of chocolate. The hops are herbal, earthy and citrusy. Good carbonation. Nice balance. Hints of wood and bourbon balance with the big malts and huge hops . Nice sipping beer. Hides the 10% alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
