"Had this aged ale at the Baileys Taproom in Portland. Still full bodied and quite malty, but the hops have faded quite a bit, leaving behind a little fruit and a little bitterness. Good enough still that I wish I could have had it fresh." SDalkoholic (2444) - Linda Vista, California, USA - OCT 24, 2013
Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Created a firm layer of foamy head while the liquid was a dark golden honey color. Aroma is a bold serving of juicy wet hops that hint towards a base of citrus and pine, however, there is a sweet touch of sugary malt. The flavor is thick with a rich profile of syrupy malts while the citrus hops are still allowed room to breathe. Extremely well balanced imperial red ale with both sides showing their true colors and a tasty after note lingers in the finish. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 30, 2012
A - Pours a hazy amber-red color with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix sweet toasted caramel malts with some pine, grapefruit, and citrus hops, with a bit of bread and a touch of booze.
T - Starts off with a mix of sweet toasted caramel and a bit of breadiness with some grapefruit and orange hops and some bitterness. Through the middle, some pine and floral hosp come through with some more bitterness and some more sweet bready malts. The finish is a mix of sweet bready malts with some grapefruit and resiny pine hop and bitterness, with a touch of booze.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with sweet, dry, bitter, and lightly warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice hoppy Imperial Red Ale with a good hop profile and a nice hop and malt balance. daleharshman (1080) - Escondido, California, USA - FEB 13, 2012
Bomber purchased 13 months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($6.49). Pours a really lovely red-garnet hue with one finger of creamy beige foam. Aroma has lots of hop tones initially (tropical fruit, pine, citrus) followed by a notable caramel maltiness. Flavor also starts with some sharp hop notes (grapefruit rind, pine needles) but immediately an equivalent caramel malt force comes in to balance it all out with further notes toffee and molasses. Quite a well-balanced imperial red. The hops notes are still quite strong even though I aged this for over a year. (57, 665) Dogbrick (14287) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 8, 2012
This beer pours a clear amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma of citrusy hops, sweet malt and toffee. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character that has herbal and citrusy notes. Bready malt in the background. The finish is fruity (tropical and citrus) with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable overall.
