RBSG 2004: Clear ruby with a small off-white head. Rich full spicy aroma, starts and ends sweet. Oily texture. JohnC (3008) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUL 18, 2004

this pours murky brown with a malty nose. The flavor is sweet. The carbonation was low. elnadeau (786) - Laguna Niguel, California, USA - JUL 15, 2004
2004 Bottle, labled as "Scotch Ale". Pours a dark ruby with a smallish head, very nice appearance. Aroma is sweet cherry, woody and light spice (I know it says it’s never spiced but...). A smooth, full bodied dark fruit flavor with good balance of hops. Delicious. mwsf (360) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 16, 2003
On tap at the 2003 Toronado Barleywine Festival: Strange baby cereal aroma. A little off. Nice flavor though. Medium bitterness. Some sweetness. jazz88 (2679) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 30, 2003
Tap @ Barclays. Deep golden color with a tan head. Fresh hop aroma. I was told this was a double IPA this year.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2003 2002. This is a different recipe, I'm informed. It's more like a double IPA. Very hoppy, very lightly spiced. Golden and crisp with touches of curacao and honey. It's a bright, light, crisp and outstanding beer is a season usually littered with dark, murky spicy crud. If the other beers were the resinous, junipery, christmas tree, this is the star on top. Delicious and a big win for Drake's. Kudos for having the balls to make this. Shadallion (534) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 25, 2001
Big nose of traditional holiday spices: cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Thick, lush mouthfeel is accentuated by a heavily spiced flavor profile, particularly more nutmeg. Very festive, but like many spiced beers can get a little cloying if you drink too much. One glass is fine, thank you.
