sampled at FOBAB 2008.... dark brown almost black pour with a wispy light tan head....lots of coffee and roasted malt in the aroma with subtle red fruit accents... sweet chocolate flavors with coffee and roast. some lingering sugars in the finish. not too much of the wine influence going nor is much of the barrel present. On tap at FoBAB. Poured deep brown with a nice short cap of tan head. The aroma was sweet upfront with chocolates and a slight vinous impression.. the whole thing was a little charred. The flavor had darker chocolate and roasted black malts at the core with sour toasted oak and vinous notes surrounding.. sour as well on the back with oak and almost bourbonny notes. Medium-bodied and sour overall on the palate (from the barrel).. long, warm finish with some tacky dark malts. Decent overall. JaBier (8178) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - DEC 15, 2008
Sampled at FoBAB 2008. Pours black with a minimal tan head. Aroma of chocolate, almond and coffee. Flavor has the creamy vanilla that comes out with good bourbon barrel aging, so I am pretty surprised this was a pinot barrel. Not getting much wine flavor, and not complaining about that for a second. This was actually my favorite of the festival. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 28, 2008
FoBAB 2008 - pours black with off white head. nose of coffee and roast. flavor is coffee, roasty, dark fruit, not much wine, thin body, astringent. kmweaver (3207) - Petaluma, California, USA - NOV 27, 2008
Draft @ Bistro BA Fest. Pours a dense, brownish black color; solid viscosity with oily edges; mostly headless. Lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and nougat in the aroma; charred and well-roasted and dry; light barrel presence if any. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy tannic red fruit barrel notes, intense, nicely roasted and charred dark chocolate notes, and some dry, toasty maltiness at the core, very mild tartness and balancing acidity from the fruit. Lengthy finish: lightly acidic red fruits and vinous notes, lightly bitter and toasty chocolate; nicely dry and mildly bitter.

Draft. Blackish beer with red highlights and a tan head. Rich malt aroma with light wine influences. Rich malt flavor with light brett, and slight stone fruit and wine that grows. Medium body (too drinkable). Lingering brett, a bit of darker malt, stone fruit, and wine. Nice complexity.
