Draft at drakes. Board says this one uses mosaic hops. Very faint haze with thin tight white head. Very tropical fruit forward hop aroma with English malt undertones. Light body as well as carb. Light toffee malt, slightly husky, English cracker. Tropical fruit, some pine and soap. Not much of a mild in the traditional sense, more of a hybrid hoppy English session ale. Drinks easy with great flavor.
On draft at Drakes. It pours a dark orange color with a beige head. The aroma has some caramel and pecan with a little fruit. The flavor is toasty with some caramel. Amber pour with an off-white head. Weird burnt popcorn smell to this. Roasted malt, citrus hops, floral notes, and some grass. Toasted bread sweetness, too. The flavor is okay, but ruined by that burnt popcorn note. Some toast, bread, and roast notes. Citrus, floral, and grassy hops with a light bitterness on the finish. On tap at Drakes poured a clear amber with a small lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of toffee, earthiness, tangerine and light grapefruit. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, earthiness, tangerine and grapefruit with a smooth lingering earthy citrus finish.

Arrives with a frothy, one-finger thick, lightly amber tinged tan colored head. The beer is an amber hue in the light, but shows brown in the daytime darkness of the bar. This has a nice, toasted, nutty aroma to it up front and this is backed by a soft fruitiness that leans towards hints of plums, and perhaps more aptly, currants. The toasted, slightly roasted character is definitely the dominant aromatic note. There is some crystal malt derived caramel character here, as well as a whole grain spiciness that adds to the malt complexity.
Lightly herbal hop character up front yields to toasted, nutty, whole-grain malt notes through to the finish. The malt character lingers on the palate along with a touch of caramelized malt, a touch of herbal hop bitterness, and a soft, somewhat non-descript fruitiness. Quite light bodied and quaffable, it has some viscosity to it though. A touch less toasted / roasted than it is in the nose, in fact the roasted component is dropped from the flavor.
A very nice Mild, and it is a nice counterpoint to the Alpha Sessions that I just had. I like the complexity of the malt character, and there is enough hop character to provide a good balance. I like this a lot more than I perhaps should; it is so hard to get a decent example of this style in the US, and it is one I like to brew on a regular basis.

Tasted from the firkin at the Triple Rock Firkin Fest on April 7, 2012. This mild ale pours a medium orange gold color from the firkin. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, herbal and earthy. A medium bodied English Mild. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal, floral and a touch citrusy. Mild and soft carbonation. 14oz pour on tap at Beer Revolution in Oakland. Light caramel and slight toasted malts are present in the aroma. Nicely aromatic. Transparent dark-copper body with a small off-white head. Starts with nice caramel flavors and moderate sweetness. Some toffee and toasted malt flavors come through later. Super flavorful. Really good stuff. Rivals Berryessa Whippersnapper, minus the appearance and mouthfeel.
