Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with orange glints and a dark tan head. Aroma suggests cat pee! Med + body. Flavor is dark malt and a lot of citrus. Mild burn. Could be hops or heat or a combo. Finishes very tasty. Just excellent. slowrunner77 (12147) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 9, 2014
This inky brew had some heft to it, bit none of us beleived it was really 11.5%! Covers the abv well. Thick, juicy hops in the nose...grapefruit, orange peel, pine, chocolate, molasses, coffee...alot going on in the nose and mouth. Bitter leaning but well balanced and deeeeelicious. I’d definitely buy in bottles." marcus (10346) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUN 23, 2013
On tap at the Ratebeer Gallery event. Pours black with a modest tan head and a celery and toffee aroma. There is a smooth dark malt flavor with massive hop bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden. bb (9525) - Alamo, California, USA - JUL 28, 2013
Draft. Black beer with a dark cream head. Big grapefruit and summer fruit aroma. Grapefruit and summer fruit flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and summer fruit lingers with light cocoa and malt. bytemesis (8585) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - JUN 23, 2013
Pours dark nearly opaque black with a very large brown head and nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus, pine resin, just a touch of roastiness. Flavor is the same, very IPA-like with the black part taking a backseat. Light sweet, medium bitter. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Tasty.

Draft. During my bachelor party long weekend in the san francisco area, second stop Drake’s Dealership. Dark pour with lighter head. Chocolate, roasted, grassy and citrus notes. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - JUN 29, 2013
Had this one late in the evening at the ratebeer gallery event. Not a lot written in the notes, but I remember it being a very strong, piney IPA with the black malts taking a back seat. Tons of pine. I give them credit for making a palatable black IPA at 11.4%. Very fresh and potent. Good job again Drakes! rouhlas (3628) - GREECE - FEB 24, 2017
