A - Served a cloudy brown with a bit of ruby mixed in and a very thin covering of bubbly head. The head fades down quickly leaving behind some light lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of rich sweet caramel malts with some raisin and dark fruits with lots of residual and caramelized sugars, vanilla, oak, and booze.
T - Starts off with some big rich caramel malts with lots of caramelized sugars and some oak and brandy notes with a bit of booze. Through the middle some more residual sugars some through with the hotness mellowing a bit, and some raisin and other dark fruit flavors. The finish is a mix of oak and vanilla with some rich caramel and booze.
M - Medium-full bodied with mild carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming, sweet, and boozy finish.
D - Very drinkable. Really big and complex barleywine with lots of great flavors mixed in. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - MAY 21, 2012
on tap at the barrel house, wow!!! this is a really good barleywine, has the full package really. looks good, nice deep mahogony with good head for such a big ba beer, nice medium carb in the mouth, super smooth, and tons of barrel all over the place in just the right proportions. really terriffic stuff, was easily the best out of the 4 ba beers they had on tap. excellent, try it if you can!!! On tap at Drake’s Barrel House pouring up murky brown with amber hues and thin off white head. This looks like classic Drake’s Barleywine. The modest aroma offers up mild prune and raisin notes, molasses, a dash of chocolate and then some brandy and booze at the end of the draw. The taste is smooth with blended notes of brown sugar coated prunes and dates and hints of tangy raisins as well as sticky aged malt syrup and a dash of chocolate. To midway it picks up semi smooth sweet vanilla and brandy notes. Into the finish as the booziness ramps up so does a mild spicy oak note. Darn nice balance achieved here. beerguy101 (5364) - Newark, California, USA - FEB 29, 2012
Sampled at the Drake’s Barrel House on 2/18/2012. This barleywine pours a slightly cloudy dark amber brown color from the tap. Large to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet, wood, bourbon and brandy. A medium to full bodied barleywine. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. Some brandy and some more bourbon. The aroma is more bourbon than brandy, just the opposite of the taste. The hops are herbal and earthy. Mild carbonation. Nice blend of Barleywines. The taste starts with some brandy sweetness at finish with some bourbon sweetness. Hides the alcohol well. Really nice blend. Great sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol bite. bb (9790) - Alamo, California, USA - FEB 20, 2012

On draft at the Barrel House. It pours dark amber with a small off white head. The aroma is very sweet with cherry, plum, caramel and toffee. Very nice. The flavor is alcoholic with big notes of caramel and toffee with more minor notes of dried apricot, molasses and brown sugar. It has a big alcoholic finish. Great combination of flavors in this rich barley wine. Very hot though. AgentSteve (1647) - SF Bay Area, California, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Pouts a still caramel brown with no head. Wonderful toffee, brandy, dried fruit and caramel in nose and flavor. Smooth vanilla and stronget brandy added on the flavor with a dry finish.
