Pint glass at DH- served an darkened brown color, minimal lacing from the faded tan head. Aroma of some lightly roasted malt and a few hops in the kettle. Hits the mouth with an even- slightly off kilter medium body, malt does taste somewhat roasted by the sensation and feel, middle holds up well, finish has a slight acidity from it. Okey dokey. djd07 (16314) - Houston, Texas, USA - FEB 25, 2012

2/25/12. Bottle shared during RBWG 2012. Dark brown pour with a nice khaki head. A mix on the aroma of sweet malts and sourish hops that reminds me of hops in the boil kettle. Bold hop flavor, both dank and citrusy, with lingering touches of roast and chocolate. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - FEB 2, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a very deep brown, mostly black colored body with a finger-width, creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is citrusy pines with some resins. A light roast and some medium sweet caramels behind the hops. Flavor is similar. Resiny pines up front with citrusy grapefruits. Caramel offers a light balance before this finishes very dry with a light roast and a higher, somewhat scraping, citrusy bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-light body and moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty nice black IPA. Easy drinking, flavorful, and well balanced. The touch of roast is distinct, but subtle while there’s lots of bitter pines.
