UPDATED: APR 3, 2018 22oz bottle at home. Bottled 06/23/17, pours black with a thick tan head. The aroma is wheat and bourbon. There are many flavors in this beer, it starts with bourbon then transitions to wheat, rye and some chocolate from the stout malts. This beer is very smooth for being 13%, I'm very glad I stored this and let it age.

After a fine Easter evening dinner I settle back with this imperial stout. The 22 oz bottle followed me home a couple of months ago. Purchased at The Cellar in nearby Odessa, I see a born on date of 6/23/17. I pop the cap and deliver the goods into my best stout tulip glass from Buffalo Bayou. A classic intro, an ebony black body finished by a soon disappearing medium tan head. I tilt for a smell, nice, berry, a moderate chocolate, something roasty. The first taste, really nice. Dark chocolate, caramel and toffee, toast, a hint of booziness and a firm accompanying bitterness. Full, rich. I hope to find again, meanwhile there is the rest of the bottle waiting.

Draught at Plan 9 Alehouse as the 5.0 version. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Moderate chocolate and coffee malt, nutty and roast malt notes, Bourbon barrel, vanilla, figs, dates and a medium dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

minutemat (6593) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2018
Bomber @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Feb 18. Many thanks Simon. Pours black, large beige head. Nice full chocolate aroma, darkened malts, a little plummy. Full bodied, smooth with lots of chocolate, vanilla, dark malts, fairly sweet and verging on unctious and desert-like. Good, though heavy-going, end to the night.

BlackHaddock (8211) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2018
Shrewsbury Beer Exchange Group meeting in Chez Sophie on 20th Feb 2018; last beer of the evening, an ideal night cap. Nearly fell asleep on the train home too! Black bodied, tanned crown. Roasted malty molasses in the nose with a side of nuts in dark chocolate. Light grape and spirit twist in the malty flavour, plenty of coffee, vanilla and chocolate too. Very pleasant, hides it's alcohol well, slick, smooth body feel.
