Gerbeer (3787) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 17, 2012
650 ml bottle. 2012 vintage. Pours a dark red/mahogany with almost no head. Aromas of brown sugar, oak, dark cherries, and deep roasted malt. Wow. Incredible balance for a young barley wine. Warm and full. OK very warm with definite alcohol burn. Sweet. Flavors of toffee, plums/cherries, oak/beech, and toasted malts. Beer liquor. Excellent. Can’t wait to see how it cellars. UPDATED: FEB 5, 2013 650ml bottle. Ruddy mahogany with thin beige head. Aroma galore: smokey oak, bourbon, vanilla, dark berry, caramel, baked bread, hazelnut. Malt-forward with a very rich sweetness that carries nicely over the high alcohol. Gently hop-tempered at the end, giving it a nice finish. Warming, delicious and deeply inebriating. The best way to kill some brain cells on a cold winter night. RumRunner101 (918) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 31, 2012
Pours brown with a red tinge. Aroma is bourbon dipped cherries - slightly sweet, slightly smoky and as it warms the booze really comes out. This beer has tons of flavour. Sweet barley which lends to some sweet dark fruits, lots of smoke and sweetness from the barrels. Hops lend a bit to balance, but aren’t on the forefront. Finish is boozy and smoky. Really quite nice. Thick, chewy, sweet. aquenne (3) - Paris, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 20, 2015 does not count
2012 bottle shared... Classic barleywine, huge cherry wood character on the aroma. Dark chocolate and fig l taste.. Strong alcohol heat... Nice mouthful slightly balanced to the bitter... Very enjoyable.. Wish we had another to age another couple yes! DuffMan (10451) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 9, 2015
Bottle, via trade with dresden (thanks Steve!)-- shared on game night with phantomhennes, heavylaevy, and TvM. Very hazy dark amber with a creamy golden head. Thick toffee malts, vanilla/butterscotch bourbon notes. Chewy and malty, very full bodied. Loved this beer, not sure why it doesn’t score higher within its style category.

So, the guys at Driftwood have traveled and discovered that with wax all over the cap of the bottle they can seriously annoy the customers. The color is dark mahogany, with small compact head, and nice lace. Mild aroma of caramel and apple peel, unexpected and weird. Very good caramel and malt flavor, with a touch of chocolate; full bodied, with a good amount of sweetness but not thick or syrupy; some fruity impression (it becomes more evident if the beer is paired with salty and savory food); there is a pleasant alcohol kick, more evident that the light Bourbon vanilla touch; mild nuttiness in the end, and more alcohol.
Good beer, but less good than the original, and not very elegant with all that booze. Mixed feelings…
Very sweet and nutty marzipan aroma with notes of plum and some alcohol apparent. Clear dark chestnut brown coloured body is topped by a light, fine bubbled tan head that recedes quite rapidly to ring. Flavour features vinous dark fruits, vanilla, chocolate and caramel offset by a lightly boozy character. Sweet nutty marzipan battles with a very nice roasty bitterness in the long aftertaste. Medium full body is slightly sticky. Low carbonation suits this well. Cellar temperature. Snifter. Bottle purchased at Toby’s in January 2013. joergen (28394) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 17, 2013
Bottle at Papsø.
Hazy orange-brown coloured with a small off-white head.
Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel and dried fruits with notes of alcohol.
Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, dried fruits and licorice with notes of oak and alcohol.
Sweet and warming alcoholic finish. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - NOV 12, 2013
Bottle:   Deep reddish caramel, thin to moderate frothy tannish head, spotty lacing.   Rich sweet biscuity and caramel nose, slight dark pitted fruit.   Rich and biscuity, bourbon notes, vanilla, graham cracker linger.   Some heat, could stand to sit for a bit.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Rich, heavy biscuity malts, caramel, bourbon, graham cracker, and dark pitted fruit.   Also a bit bready.   Good, still a little young, but worth it.   Very enjoyable. Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Light toffee, milk chocolate and light barrel notes. Deep clear amber with a yellowish head. Toffee, burnt sugars, barrel and some booze. Not bad, maybe better with even more age.
