650ml bottle at Alex's. Vintage 2012. Pours a clear dark red-ish copper with a beige head. Aroma is bourbon and caramel. Taste is veeery sweet with lots of caramel and some hoppy bitterness. Too sweet for, but it is still good.

650ml bottle @ the office. Pours a murky rusty dark brown colour with tiny beige head. Nose is quite the malty barleywine character with a mild hop note. Flavour is caramel, malty, some boozy heat(but not as much as I recall historically). I’m so happy this is holding up nicely.

Oakes (19426) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2017
Reddish-chestnut. No head. The aroma is a lot of bourbon, wood, alcohol, and on the palate you get a lot of this same character. It’s strong, the bourbon is pretty powerful, and of course the base beer is strong, sweet, and has a lot of underlying bitterness.

GRM (4243) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 11, 2016

Boutip (6628) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 30, 2015
Bottle: Poured a murky brown color ale with a large foamy head with ok retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of residual sugar notes is pretty dominant with some vanilla and bourbon notes also easily noticeable. Taste is a mix of sweet caramelized malt notes with some toffee, some oak, and bourbon and vanilla notes. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation with some light warming alcohol notes also perceptible. Quite the nightcap with a heavy dose of sugar and loads of barrel notes.

Better than expected. Liam’s bottle. Bourbon, dark, yet still good drinkability. Boozy from 12%. Big mouthfeel.

2012 bottle shared... Classic barleywine, huge cherry wood character on the aroma. Dark chocolate and fig l taste.. Strong alcohol heat... Nice mouthful slightly balanced to the bitter... Very enjoyable.. Wish we had another to age another couple yes!

Leighton (22823) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 11, 2015
Bottle shared during the RBESG 2014 Sunday tasting at Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell. Vintage 2012. Pours clear, rich amber with a creamy tan head. The nose smacks of alcohol, with some ripe fruits and wood, along with fruitcake. Medium sweet flavor with some crunchy grains, bread, aged fruits, toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with gooey malts, dried fruits. Not bad.

DuffMan (10773) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 9, 2015
Bottle, via trade with dresden (thanks Steve!)-- shared on game night with phantomhennes, heavylaevy, and TvM. Very hazy dark amber with a creamy golden head. Thick toffee malts, vanilla/butterscotch bourbon notes. Chewy and malty, very full bodied. Loved this beer, not sure why it doesn’t score higher within its style category.
