Three times the malt bill and five times the hops of a normal strength beer, this Barleywine tests the limits of our brewhouse and our backs! But the real struggle is in getting this massive brew to completely ferment, a true test of our skill and the vigor of our yeast. Consisting of 98% Pale Malt (with a bag CaraMunch thrown in for color) and just one hop variety, Columbus, this beer showcases these two basic ingredients in their most concentrated state. 32°

Enjoy this very special beer young, but save a few bottles for future winters. Enjoy not too cold, say about 13C!

Lubiere (13941) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 14, 2016
A reddish copper barleywine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, extra boozy, light licorice, meaty and musky. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with loads of resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, light woody notes, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle at Spinrsx tasting.

22oz bottle of 2015 release. Pours a pale brown color with a bit of frothy head. Thick malty flavor. Dank resiny intense hoppiness. Tastes more like a very good triple IPA.

TheJester (2542) - Cavan Monaghan, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 3, 2016
650 mL bottle, marked 11.4%. Lovely copper colour. The head is small, but laces nicely. The aroma is less malty sweet than most, and more hoppy. The hops are fruity. Fruit and berries. There is a hint of booze as well. The hops are there in the flavour as well, and work nicely with the simple malt sweetness. Booze again, for depth. Some black pepper at the end. To age this one would be to losr those hops, but smooth out the booze. Different, and very enjoyable.

Carbonatation faible, corps dense.

VT (2527) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 17, 2015
650 ml bottle. Pours a veiled ruby reddish brown with no head. Aroma is red wine, molasses, wood, roast...and something dead. Yeah. Horrible, pungent aroma. Of death, or something. Flavor is red wine and booze. Loads of dead booze. Wine, carboard, crap loads of vinegar, as well. Full body, weak to completely absent carbonation. Probably was infected. Definitely drain poured.

djd07 (15067) - Houston, Texas, USA - NOV 17, 2015
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roasted malt and dark fruit. Medium mouth, oak, dark fruit, hides booze very well, very good.

How: Bottle (22 oz) at tasting. 2013 vintage. Shared by mathieuc, thanks!

>>> A simple sweet and boozy Barley Wine with interesting fruity features.

+ Nice fruity (peaches & nectarines) presence, especially in the aroma
+ The light bitterness helps to cut the sweetness a bit (but unfortunately that isn’t enough)
It’s sweet and boozy, even 2+ years after bottling
It doesn’t have much depth or complexity
It’s slowly starting to show signs of oxidation (cardboard)

Flavors: Sugar / sweetness, peaches/nectarines, alcohol, mild spiciness, cardboard

Bottle 660ml. [2013 Vintage] Pours golden with low white head. Some lacing. Aroma is of sugar, alcohol. Taste is of alcohol, fruits, malt, some cardboard. Palate: Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Overall: Somewhat heavy.

czar (9158) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 20, 2015
pours unclear bright golden orange with a small reviving white head, good retention and lacing. candies, barley sugars, bright oranges, clementines, very boozy and hot, sweet and spicy maltiness - some caramel, floral and warming mead, hoppy spicy resins, spruce tips. light carbonation, medium to full body - almost syrupy; both sweet and almost harsh spicy-resinous finish. hot imperial ipa-like. o-k.

mathieuc (4000) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 20, 2015
2013 vintage bottle. Pours a clear golden with a small+ white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is ot fruits, hops and alcohol. Hops feels surprisingly fresh for a 2+ year brew. Taste is bitter to a medium-high level and fruity again. Caramel. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and alcohol is not that aggressive. Overall I’m pretty sure I would have hated this fresh (I prefer the english type barleywines) but now it’s a juicy, hoppy, mellow sipper.
