2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours clear golden with a dense, two finger high, white head. Looks really good. Estery, spicy aroma, some choriander. Taste is quite boozy, muddled flavours. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, long boozy finish.
Overall a beer that smells really good but the prominent alcohol gets to overpowering when drinking it. Not one of Driftwoods best.
Appearance: clear medium gold with one finger of fluffyy white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: honey, yeasty, hot booze, apples & pears. (6/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate-high bitter, alcohol edge. (6/10) Palate: medium slightly slick body, lively carbonation, off-dry moderate bitter and warming finish. (3/5)
OK, Driftwood, I think you’ve overstepped here. “Son of the Morning”? As in “Lucifer”? As in “Devil”? As in “Duvel”? Yeah, no. I know Duvel, and you, my friend, are no Duvel. Points lost for overweening arrogance. (No, I don’t subtract points when it’s justifiable arrogance, duh.) Another gorgeous label, I’ll give you that, but we’re talking beer, not labels. Doesn’t hit the numbers on the style guidelines, which makes me a little sad because it seems to be happening all to frequently with Driftwood lately. This is drinkable, but it’s not what I was hoping for. Damned with faint praise: OK. (12/20)

Light yellow body white head. Sweet yeasty aroma. Taste is boozy hot sweet yeasty malty. Okay but a bit unbalanced. Oakes (18167) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 15, 2017
Dull gold. No head. Has some sticky phenols on the nose...no other signature. Sticky, touch of apple and a dash of phenols. Sticky and unbalanced. cards04 (2827) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - APR 14, 2017
A decent albiet unexciting Belgian strong ale. Typical yeast, bread, and malt characteristics. Effervescent. Ok. Brettsky06 (501) - Manitoba, CANADA - APR 8, 2017
Golden yellow pour. Aroma is honey and some pears maybe a couple other fruits. Taste is sweet and boozy. Some more honey. Not bad but definitely not my favorite driftwood beer

Visual: (cellared for 5 years). Pours frosty golden orange with a small dissipating head, ringed retention with an island, very tight clusters of cascading steady streams.

Nose: chamomile-honey barley malt, boozy. (lvl-7)-intensity
Attack: slightly thicker viscosity, micro-tingly soft crisp, boozy dense barley malt impression
Mid-palate: honey, numbing-BOOZY HEAVY barley malt, candi sugar (lvl-7-sweetness), chamomile, clove
Finish: mild coriander, lingering sweet heavy barley malt
Summary: Heavy and weighs on the palate. It has the core characteristics of a Belgian strong, but lacks the balance and refinement of a made in Belgium. The richness of flavour is lacking in the finish allowing the alcohol to dominate.
Bottle from CANBIF 2016. Nice golden pour with a creamy white head. Yeast and booze, pepper, coriander, wheat, bit bready, clove and banana, very strong peach or papaya, but unripe, aroma - odd and slightly out of place. Moderate body and carbonation, strong alcohol, sweet. ljthiessen (1391) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - JUL 16, 2016
Bottle. Cloudy golden pour with a white head. Aroma is kinda sweet, some citrus, grassy notes, tropical fruit. Taste is sweet up front with tropical fruit and citrus, some grassy and yeasty notes. A little oddly balanced. AgentAle (1780) - Alberta, CANADA - JUN 11, 2016
Aroma is clove, honey, caramel light apple. Taste is sweet light malts, honey, straw, light funk and clove. Appearance is a clear gold with a fluffy pearl head that retains quite well. khays (89) - - MAY 12, 2016
Pours clear golden colour with a slight head. Smell like pear and apple, with yeast and grass. Tastes bright and complex, slightly sweet , slightly sour and slightly, grape like, with some funk. Great mouthfeel, doesn't feel heavy, lively carbonation and a dry finish.
