Pour on tap at the brewery as bourbon barrel porter. Pour is dark brownish black with off white head, aroma has notes of bourbon, vanilla, hints of toffee, caramel, touch of roast. Taste is dry and roasty but has sweet bourbon, vanilla notes going into sweet caramel, finishing fairly dry. Not bad for 5.5% onceblind (9890) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 26, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 8, 2012 (update--2012 version is sweeter and chocolatier) Tap @ brewery. Dark brown with ruby highlights around the edges, with a thin khaki head that left a gap in the middle. Aroma of chocolate malts and whiskey char, perhaps a by of molasses too. Palate is not as rough as some whiskey beers, but is nice and full without a pounding, with a just-right amount of whiskey booze notes. Flavor has oak char, chocolate, vanilla, more oak, a whisky like booze taste, and finishes with a of dry caramel char tone. Good if you like whiskey. Otherwise kinda average for a whiskey beer.
